She Dances
She dances barefoot in the snow,
Silver-tipped toes tripping lightly over drifts,
As, laughing, her lovely feet kick glittering sprays
And send cascading fountains, geysers, of winter joy.
She plunges brazenly into the tossing lake,
Standing waist-deep in surging foam,
Daring the raging storm to carry her away,
And laughing into the fury of the shrieking gale.
With summer's sun she trips through vine and arbor,
Surrounded by grape and leaf her gleaming skin
Bursts forth with golden freckles in joyous profusion,
Dappling her laughing face and rounded bosom.
In autumn she wanders woods all clad in golden brown
And dashes through mounds of fallen leaves,
Spreading explosions of color dancing into the air about her
And peals of laughter echoing in her wake.
She finds joy and laughter everywhere,
Child-woman, Earth-mother, bringer of light and wonder,
If dragons soared the cerulean vaults above us,
Laughing, she would find a way to ride them.
She dances barefoot in the snow,
Laughing as the crystalline maelstrom flies
About her lithe and lovely, pirouetting form,
Barefoot she dances in the snow.
For one brief shining moment she danced with me.
Now she dances barefoot in my heart.
Do It Anyway
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior
motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and
true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
-- Mother Teresa via Raul Miller
We are dragonflys suspended in the morning air Moving quickly back and forth and back and forth again Transformed from our youth we rise above the shallow lake shimmering too much in the dappled sunshine We zigzag across the mirrored surface searching for a soulmate Mile after lonely mile until at last we fly in tandem Full of grace and shine and light we start the magical process again. - Caitlin Dundon
She used to drag her mattress besider her low window and lie awake for a long while, vibrating with excitement, as a machine vibrates from speed. Life rushed in upon her through that window - or so it seemed. In reality, of course, life rushes from within, not from without. There is no work of art so big or so beautiful that is was not once all contained in some youthful body, like this one which lay on the floor in the moonlight, pulsing with ardor and anticipation.
-- Willa Cather, The Song of the Lark
Peace, my heart, let the time for the parting be sweet.
Let it not be a death but completeness.
Let love melt into memory and pain into songs.
Let the flight through the sky end in the folding of the wings over the nest.
Let the last touch of your hands be gentle like the flower of the night.
Stand still, O Beautiful End, for a moment, and say your last words in silence.
I bow to you and hold up my lamp to light you on your way.
-- Rabindranath Tagore
