Ducky Medlock has just finished a song and looks out upon the sea of faces that surround the front of stage; he is into the third song of his set and the bodies have moved from the back and sides of the auditorium and amassed pressed against the rail.
Already Medlock has worked up a sweat; the crowd obliges with hands outstretched, trying it seems to grab at the music that has pulled them ever so closer from their seats towards the stage front. This crowd is like any other; smiles, another party underway with Medlock reading the crowd and interacting with the energy shared by the musician and the fans.
“ A set list is a good waste of paper” Medlock muses. “ Usually, into the first song I can read the crowd and by the end of the night the set list is long forgotten. I feel the energy of the crowd. I try to give em’ what they want”.
And Medlock delivers. By shows end, screams for another encore have subsided as house management is strictly enforcing the shows ending time. If not for that, “we could play all night. We get lost into the music; we love the music, we love our fans. We play our hearts out for em’, night after night. And no, I don’t ever get tired of it. No matter how tired I am from being on the road, no matter how many dates we do in a row, I can count on the energy of the crowd to carry me through, and I bless em’ for it. I give it my all. I love em; for it” Medlock says, eyes piercing through a truss of blond hair insuring the message is received and understood.
Watching Ducky Medlock on stage, these words are evermore evident.
Ducky Medlock is the rhythm guitarist for The Bucky Covington Band, a hot act from Nashville that has been touring for two years in support of their debut album which has generated three top 10 songs and received critical acclaim from the fans and press alike.
Their music style is Country, however crossed over into other music genres and earned fans that don’t normally listen to Country.
Medlock’s energy onstage is evident as a strong backup vocalist, adding color and strength to Covington’s songs in the harmony area. Ducky prowls the stage giving all night after night, adding his talent in with the other band members that create the unique Covington sound, hearing a song on the radio the distinctiveness of the Bucky Covington Band sounds like no other; you know who it is without question.
Medlock has been a proficient songwriter for over twenty years, and his catalog of music is an alchemists mixture, taking from every music style and incorporating into his own.
There is a genuine texture to Ducky’s music. His vocal range and musical style provide for an energetic show where old songs are mixed with new songs, and a looseness mixed with confidence from twenty years of living the songs provide for an evening that can only be described as entertainment in the highest caliber.
When the Covington Band takes a little break in between tours, Medlock is out on the road doing a rare solo tour of the Northeastern United States and also selected shows in the Southeast as well. This is a chance to see Medlock in his purest form, just man and guitar. And the feeling is the same whether in a 400 seat club or in front of 80000 people as the Covington tours have been, you will leave with a feeling that the music was meant for you. An intimate evening that everyone has shared in a wonderful experience, as the sweaty smiles of the fans are evident that another show has been performed, the crowd disperses and Medlock is back on the road, going to another city sometimes not knowing where until the wheels start rolling but knowing the next crowd will be the same, won over by the music and the entertainment that is Ducky Medlock.
Be sure to check out Ducky Medlock on this series of dates by going onto his website for this tour is guaranteed to sell out and once the Covington Band cranks back up, the solo Medlock shows may be years away before you have a chance to see the man and his music in this setting again.
