Poet, Actress, Writer and Author, DuEwa M. Frazier, began making her mark as a spoken word artist, in Summer 1999 when she featured at the Multi-State Poetry Slam in Philadelphia, PA. Since then DuEwa has been called a “gifted and conscious performing poet." In 2005 she featured in the documentary film “Rhyme and Reason." DuEwa is the CEO/Founder of Lit Noire Publishing, a creative arts and publishing organization established in 2002! She has featured on Oxygen Network, Manhattan Neighborhood Cable Network and in many other shows. Her performance poetry has lead her to work with numerous jazz, hip hop and funk musicians in the New York City area. In November 2007 she performed in the play "Ice Floes" playing the lead female role of "Eunice" at The Looking Glass Winter Forum. DuEwa received an Audience Award for Best Actress for her performance as "Eunice." Additionally, she will feature in the upcoming short film "Passengers of 7D" and several other projects.
She has been a featured poet at numerous venues including: Bowery Poetry Club, Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, Indianapolis Book Festival, Wordstock, LQ, Skylight Gallery, Five Spot, Wordspace, Bar 13, Yale Club, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Westhill High School, Erasmus High School, Center for Black Literature, Temple University, University of Pennysylvania Kelly Writer's House, Bohemian Caverns, La Pena Cultural Center, Charis Books, Legacy Books, Robin's Bookstore, Karibu Books, Howard University Bookstore, The Shrine, Bluestockings Books, Hue Man Bookstore, October Gallery, New Market Theater, Times Square Arts Center, and many others!
As a speaker, she has featured on panels (Temple University’s Sisters Defining Sisters Conference, Cultural Circle Conference and Sista Cypher: Battling a Bad Rap Hip Hop Panel, Re: Verse Festival, Harlem Book Fair and others) relating to self-publishing and hip hop media. Her reach as a dynamic artist is also felt through literature and publishing as she is Founder/CEO of Lit Noire Publishing and the producer of Word Canvas open mic poetry events in New York City. Frazier is the author of two highly reviewed volumes of poetry: Shedding Light From My Journeys and Stardust Tracks on a Road. She is the Editor of the NAACP Image Award Nominated anthology, Check the Rhyme: An Anthology of Female Poets & Emcees (July 2006), featuring the work of fifty internationally/nationally known women poets. Her poetry has featured in publications such as Essence Magazine, Drumvoices Revue, Poetry Ink Anthology, Check the Rhyme, Voice, X Magazine and others.
She earned the B.A. Degree in English from Hampton University and the M.S.Ed. Degree from Fordham University.
Frazier wrote and performed her first one-woman dramatic play in 2004 at The Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe, titled “Flash Femininity” a play which presented themes and lessons relating to: women in hip hop, community upliftment and cultural art. She is at work on a number of new projects and resides in New York.
