It's a true musical melting pot of the blues, soul, jazz, classic rock and traditional country. Merging strong rhythms, meaty lyrics, and classic testosterone-filled sounds defines the sound of Jim Duff & the Necessities. In 2010 the band completed a South Eastern tour that hit cities like Nashville TN, Ashville NC, and Louisville KY. The band has also played venues such as BB Kings and many major music festivals throughout the south East. MORE ABOUT JIM DUFF & THE NECESSITIES As lead vocalist and self-taught left handed guitar player, Jim has played in venues as large as 20,000. Raised in Waynesburg, Kentucky, Jim has also lived in Florida, South Carolina, California, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico. Troy Jones, the drummer, somewhat of a human metronome, is the heart of the band. Troy is from Louisville, KY, graduating from Eastern Kentucky University with a percussion performance music degree. Seth Thomas is the bass player, back up vocals, and harmonica player. He hails from Nashville, TN and provides a variety of sounds to expand the creative options of the music. Jim Duff & the Necessities are keen to point out that everything they listen to directs the musical development in some way. However, they would include Waylon Jennings, Eric Clapton, Albert King, Jimmy Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, BB King, Hound Dog Taylor, Bob Marley, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dimebag Darrell, Slayer, Government Mule, Kris Kristofferson, Phish, and the stank nasty funk of Tower of Power are amongst their biggest influences. They have begun to showcase their talent in various venues across Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee. Playing at numerous gigs assures that their name and music are being heard by as many people as possible.
