September 19th is the date of the NWI Parrothead's Fall beach clean-up . We will be meeting at 9 AM at the Kemil Beach parking lot. All volunteers will be required to sign a liability waiver before continuing to the beach. We will be covering about one mile of beach east of Kemil Road. No open toe shoes permitted. The club will provide gloves.
Kemil beach can be reached by turning north off Rt 12 on Kemil Road which runs along the eastern edge of the Indiana Dunes State Park.Kemil beach is known to be the best Indiana beach to find small shells and smooth stones. However, we will also be searching for liter and debris.In addition to litter pick-up and monitoring, Parrothead vounteers will also collect valuable data on our beaches through water quality testing and science-based beach observations. This information is used on a site-by-site basis to improve beach conditions. It is for this reason we will need a minimum of 8 volunteers to complete the work at Kemil Beach although the more volunteers we have the quicker we can complete our tasks.
We will divide into 2 teams:
Team 1 will monitor and record general beach conditions and check water quality. Team 2 will remove and catalog liter and debris on the beach.
We plan to finish before Noon and head off for LeRoy's for lunch or a late breakfast. If you haven't had breakfast at LeRoy's you are in for a pleasant
