About me: Danger is a diamond. Simple. Just ask her dancefloor devotees. Be it at Kinky Dangerous, her Saturday residency at Monkey, her Thursday antics at Contagious, her stuffed Sunday sessions at Sunday Sundae, Cash Queen and Wild Fruit or her must-do after hours Rebel ventures this girl knows how to play the right tunes at the right time. Courtesy of some right decent house music from disco house to proper dirty electro house, Danger creates the kind of smiling dancefloor clubbers love. (And that smile is only ever surpassed by the grin on Dulcie’s face when she’s in the mix!)
She got to this state of play by starting early. Playing in clubs when she was legally too young to even be there. From doing the dj thing of getting a Saturday job at a record shop she soon started to play those tunes she spent her wages on in clubs around Brighton. And one of those clubs was Wild Fruit thanx to Paul Kemp. Alongside dj’s Andy Crock and Craig Woodrow, Dulcie played at the first ever Wild Fruit in 1991 and she’s been an irreplaceable resident ever since. But it wasn’t just Brighton’s discerning queer clubbers that got a taste for Danger. Word soon got around that this kid was the business. Name a big club and she played there; Ministry Of Sound, Hard Times, The Honeyclub, The Zap, Bagley’s, Discotec, DV8, Birmingham Pride, Middlesborough Arena, Sankeys Soap and The Coco Club. Name-drop a few dj’s and she joined them on the technics; Princess Julia, David Morales, Wildchild, Chris Coco, Danny Rampling, Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Oakey, Paulette, Comacho, Brandon Block, The Freemasons, Guy Williams, Lisa German, Gonzalo, Paul Heron and Dj Disciple.
Fast-forward to 2006 and Dulcie’s still Brighton’s favourite girl dj. This year has seen Danger make the main room at Wild Fruit her true home as she joins fellow residents Pete Haywood and Neil Duffie to create the ultimate fruity party. She’s served her old skool time and now she’s reaping the rewards. “It’s my favourite club in the world!” she says grinning. “I love the people, I love the music and if I wasn’t djing I’d be on the dancefloor”. Push the clock forward a few hours and you have Rebel – the official Wild Fruit after-party - where Dulcie reigns supreme with her dead “dirrrrty” electro funk. 2005 saw a new twist in Dulcie’s ever growing ambition as she launched Kinky Dangerous. Brighton was gagging for a filthy vocal electro house night and embraced Kinky like a long lost friend. A year on and one venue move later and Kinky Dangerous is still making friends in the right places. Saturday is now for Monkey business at Brighton’s infamous Gloucester and Dulcie plays a vital role – as well as some fuck off tunes. She’s a tuff bitch at Monkey and the misbehaving Monkey boys and girls love it.
And she’s made Sunday no longer a day of rest courtesy of her Sunday Sundae and Cash Queen residencies. Sundae sees the Danger join fellow residents Richard Jones, Kate Wildblood and guests on the decks for a terrace full of sun-drenched fun as the tunes stay strictly NY and classic and the punters all night. Many a Monday morning is lost as Sundae weaves it spell and you find yourself joining Danger and fellow Cash Queen resident Mick ‘ Dj Dad’ Fuller for a soulful session at The Koo Club. The weekends just don’t get much better.
Add Golden Handbag’s galore (that’s Best Female Dj two years running & Best Club runner up for Kinky Dangerous), promoting and djing at Brighton’s only credible girls Koochy, her legendary Honeyclub residencies with Restless, Contagious and Time, the cover girl appearances for Diva and Brighton’s Gscene, her storming sets at Brighton Pride 2006 and a studious distinction grade for her Music Production Diploma and well you can’t help but be impressed.
So that’s Dulcie. Brighton’s double D girl. The dj you most want to hear. Be it to celebrate Brighton Pride in the Wild Fruit Dance Tent, during the early hours at Rebel, kicking off you weekend all stylish like at her own Kinky Dangerous, soaking up the loved-up rays at Sunday Sundae, revelling in the sweetness of a soulful Cash Queen, on a podium at Wild Fruit or sweating your nut off at Monkey you just know Dulcie will deliver. Because when the weekend comes there is only one girl to make it right. Our Danger girl!
