Dulcinea create a gravity that draws the listener into a world where the real and the imagined are so close they can hear each other's heart beat. Poetic narrative and beautifully entwining melodies are laced with a bittersweet darkness, a romance both tragic and urbane.
The music can best be described as a concoction of folk, rock and classical styles. It is arranged for piano, guitar and two voices, pulsing an ebb and flow as each of the two performers in turn takes the lead.
Dulcinea are a singer-songwriter duo formed by Alexandra Bowen and Alastair Powers. They take their name from the unrequited love of Don Quixote: for him she is the embodiment of all the magic absent from the world; to this day, the reference carries with it implications of a hopeless devotion.
Separately their successes as soloists include: finalist for 'Orange Unsigned', which included appearances on Channel 4 and T4, featured artist for www.mercedes-benz.tv and www.bbc.co.uk. Their music has been used in independent film, including the forthcoming movie, 'Scar Crow' by Director, Andy Thompson. Their performance experience is local, national, and international and the two have been billed amongst the likes of Joan As Policewoman, The Howling Bells, Carina Round, Liam Frost, David Ford and The Dust Collectors.
Hi! I've found you at random... Your music is really good. This is what I want from music... even though I like some more extreme music but yours has a soul and I think it's most important... Good Luck!
I was working at the venue so I was lucky enough to hear your beautiful music a number of times. Great stuff and I hope to see you again at some point in the future.
Wondrous, beautiful, elegant - what a delight your show was at the Big Blue. I adore you guys beyond belief - more than false eyelashes (which says a LOT).
