G'day.
I'm Duncan, I play the clarinet. It is not always easy for people to admit this fact.
I grew up in sunny Adelaide - the city of churches - in Australia and am now residing in even sunnier London - the city of lots more stuff than churches. I arrived in early March '09 and since then have formed my own trio with the exceptionally creative name: 'the Duncan Hemstock trio'. If you have the volume on your computer set to an audible level, then you are probably listening to us. If not, why not? Get on it.
My primary influences? Benny Goodman has to be number 1 but there are MANY others especially now that I play alto and tenor sax as well as flute. I have to say that a fellow by the name of 'Andy Firth' is probably a very close second to Benny as without him and his marvelous teaching I may well have employment in a field other than music.
What have I done? Concerts (solo and groups), festivals, radio, tv, movies (acting, writing music, playing), studio stuff, cruise ships and gigs all over the place. Most professional musicians have done similar stuff and I feel incredibly lucky to be one of those. I get huge amounts of enjoyment out of performing and hanging with excellent musicians who are energetic and warm people.
Clearly I like the sound of my own typing. If you have made it this far, I congratulate you and urge you to come along to one of my gigs for great jazz and great fun.
Stay cool,
Duncan Hemstock
