Dry Lips. The video is directed by Uffe Truust (www.uffetruust.com) and was filmed in our home town Skive in March 2007. It took two stormy nights to shoot the video (We haven't used any wind-or rain machines.). Enjoy!
Having existed since 2001, and having played more than 300 shows in- and outside of Denmark, The Skive-based band Dúné have evolved into a powerful army of musicians, creating a potent hybrid of high-energy rock, sharp synths, crisp guitars and catchy melodies, all mixed in a genre that Dúné has dubbed Indielectrock.
1988
Malte and Cille are born only days apart on the local hospital in Skive, Denmark, and barely six months later, Mattias and Malte first meet – in the local swimming pool, where their mothers have brought them.
2001 – 2003
After having played their instruments in their rooms, the three classmates Mattias, Malte and Simon decide to start a band. The youngsters meet Anne Cecilie, who play the piano, sing, and play a mean guitar – an ability that immediately spark the interest of the three boys. One year prior to this event, Piotrek had arrived to Denmark from Poland, and didn't speak a word of Danish, but the band notice his skills on classical guitar. The band already have a guitarist, so they ask Piotrek to join on the bass. Soon after, the debut concert is held in the living room of Mattias' parents.
The band play a series of concerts in Skive, but eventually, they play away from home – in a small town between the cities of Skive and Viborg. A local band, led by Ole and Danny are also playing that night. The band from Skive doesn't care much for the other band, but after a short time they discover that they actually have a lot in common. Soon after, Danny and Ole's band brake up, but the band from Skive discovers that the two boys also has a love of Kraftwerk, Sex Pistols, Depeche Mode, Devo, New Order, The Hives, Kliché, The Prodigy, The Strokes, The Cure, Daft Punk, Blur, Interpol, Joy Division, Muse, The Police, David Bowie and Gang Of Four (just to mention a few), and that gives them a wildcard to the rehearsal room in Skive. Dúné is a reality!
2004 - 2005
Having a huge appetite for music, combined with a very serious working mentality, the band works hard when rehearsing and playing live. They play any stage they can, despite none of band members being old enough to drive. It doesn't take long before people start to take notice of the extremely energetic young band.
Dúné play concerts with UK act Art Brut, and Danish bands as The Fashion, Moon Gringo and Tiger Tunes, who they team up with to to a remix, found on Dúné's very first EP.
Besides playing live, the band continues to write new material, which is recorded continuously for their two first EP's that the band finance themselves. The EP are well received, and Kristian Riis from Music Export Denmark write:
”The EP is the first building-stone in a long and promising career on the Danish and international stage. Despite the age of the band members, Dúné has managed to create an exiting platform to present their music from, and the EP is refreshing, and an exiting encounter.”
The rumours start circulating – even beyond the Danish border. Dúné travel to Norway and Sweden a few times, and even play a gig in Germany.
2006
Dúné kicks off the year by performing at the Spot Festival – Denmark’s "biggest showcase". Packing the large Train venue, they are awarded an incredible six out of six stars in Denmark’s most influential music magazine Gaffa.
Next stop is the prestigious Roskilde Festival, where the band played in front of an audience of more than 3000 people on the Pavilion Junior stage. This concert is awarded five out of six stars by another Danish music magazine, Soundvenue.
The concert at Spot brings a lot of international attention to the band, and Dúné is ”Band Of The Week” in the renowned newsletter from US-based A&R Worldwide. The band is subsequently playlisted on a number of US, UK and German radio stations. Many of the radio stations still have the band playlisted today. The international interest brings the band to London during a vacation in the fall, where they play three showcases. Having just arrived home, they are informed that they are nominated for the ”Best new talent” award at the televised P3 Gold Awards in Copenhagen – and they are also asked to play live at the show!
At the award show, Dúné premiers their first single 'Bloodlines', and the song immediately becomes ”Track of the week” on Denmark’s biggest radio station DRP3. The song also goes straight to number one on the Danish Video Chart 'Liga.dk' and on the download portals it is featured on – including iTunes.
The band didn't notice the sudden fame. They have barricaded themselves in a tiny Randers studio to record their debut album. Joining them is UK producer Mark Willis (The Blue Van a.o.) and his Danish associate Dan Hougesen.
2007
2007 starts out in the studio, only interrupted by a performance at by:LARM in Norway and at the Eurosonic Festival in Holland, where Dúné packs the legendary VERA venue. Shortly thereafter, Dúné makes a licensing agreement with Sony/BMG Germany for the release of Dúné in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and is followed by a number of concerts in Germany, where the album is due at the end of the year.
In April, the bags are packed for L.A., where Dúné has been invited to play at the popular and renowned conference/showcase MUSEXPO.
May 29th 2007 Dúné released thieir debut album ”We Are In There, You Are Out Here” was released in Denmark at Iceberg Records, and the band is getting ready for the summer festivals – again to play both Spot and Roskilde, but also numerous other Danish, Norwegian and German festivals.
September the 28th Dúnés releases their debut in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan. In October they are nominated at MTV'S EMA for 'BEST DANISH ACT', and three weeks after their supports MUSE, Motherbrother and Foo Fighters - all with in a week!
2008
The year 2008 starts out “receiving the most important award in Denmark, ‘The P3 Guld Award’ and 100.000 DKK. from the Danish National Radio, DR P3.
Les then a moth after receiving the P3 Guld award Dùné receives three Grammies:
- ‘Best Danish Rock Album’
- ‘Best Danish Band’
- ‘Newcommers Of The Year’
More over Dúné receives two awards from the biggest Danish Music Magazine, GAFFA as ‘Best Band Of The Year’ and ‘Newcommer Band Of The Year’ and are for the first time on the cover of GAFFA.
In February and March 2008 Dúné are touring Denmark, Germany and Austria with sold out concerts every night.
In March Dúné signs with Columbia/Sony/BMG for the rest of Europe and with the biggest Japanese indie record label, Dreamusic, for release of the debut in Japan.
In June 2008 all the band members in Dúné graduated from High School and was set free for the rock’n’roll life! During the summer Dúné toured several festivals in most of Europe. In August they went to Japan on a promo tour to do interviews on television, radio etc.
The future will bring a lot of new exciting experiences including touring in Japan, concerts on Trafalgar Square and on the music exhibition ‘Musexpo’ in London and album release in Sweden.
ENTER METROPOLIS
Seven eighteen years old kids, living in a small danish city are starting a band, win three Danish Music Awards, an European Borderbreakers Award, the P3-Gold-Award, an Carlsberg Scolarship Award, two Gaffa-Awards and many more nominations. Enthused reviewers and sold out shows - from the smallest stages in Denmark to the big stadiums in Tokyo - it's understandable that you can start feeling quite dizzy, thinking about the next career move. But maybe you should just venture it.
Here's how it started, the second chapter of the odyssey of the famous seven from Skive, Denmark.
A new beginning in Metropolis
After the release of the debuet album "We are in there, you are out here" in many countrys in Europe and Japan, which was followed by their school graduation, the band moved to the most urban city in Denmark: Copenhagen. During the first six months they tried to get used to the metroshuttletrain, which drove them regularly to the airport from where they flew to concerts and promotion-appointments in other countries. In november 2008 the calender got blocked for every single other activiy and the seven musicians started to work on new songs in their rehearsal room in Copenhagen (which was in the neighbourhood of a Hells Angels meeting point) - far, far away from Skive.
Searching for a producer in the USA and Great Britain during the songwriting process Ole and Cecile were listening to many metalrecords to make their synthesizers sound more heated. But during the first thoughts about asking international top-prducers, the band met the most conciderd metal and Hard-rock-producer of the country, Jacob Hansen, who produced many important Metal records during the past years, including the platin-awarded album by the hardrock band VolBeat. Spontaneously Ole called him and catched a suprised Jacob Hansen on the other end of the country. Although Dúné and Jacob Hansen seem to be a wired couple the band soon packed their stuff and left to Ribe, a small town in Jutland, to start recording. And although the synthesizers of the band were confirmed as "organs" the collaboration got successful. Dúné also catched the producers Mark Wills and Dan Hougesen - the producers of "We Are In There You Are Out Here" - as the Co-producers and for other arrangements. The result is a impressive second album which sounds heavier, prickly and more adult than the first record, but still exposes the youth's energy of this amazing band.
As soon as the recordings were finished in may 2008 the album got mixed by the swedish producer Michael Ilbert (Robyn, The Hives, Cardigans, Supergrass, Roxette) and the band left to their home in Copenhagen which seemed to get a little closely for the high motivated young band: after living for only ten months in this town, the band packed their guitars, synthsizers, drum parts and bass guitars into a small van and left to her new hometown - Berlin. Not to turn their backs to Denmark, but to broaden their horizon and to get new inspiration. More exactly were are already in the third chapter of the band.
Topics and lyrics of the record
Who grows up in a danish dozy small town where the mystical disappearance of the neighbours cat would be a dramatic event is more impressible for the shiny lights of the big citys by nature. For the band the voyages to Tokyo, London, Los Angeles, Moskow and, last but not least, Berlin left a big impression. The experiences with the whole world beyond Denmark are building up the main sound of the new record "Enter Metropolis": Mattias' lyrics are about moving from the small town to a huge city and the life in even bigger ones. A change of location doesn't mean a change of the enviroment on it's own, more over it's a mental challenge as well: who moves leaves the own comfort zone towards the unknown Metropolis, where sin and danger are waiting, fear, freedom, the boundless possibillitys and, last but not least, the wistful desire to the close home - this is what "To Metropolis", "Victim Of The City", "Time To Leave", "Memories" and "Please Bring Me Back" are expressing. The new freedom is also shaking authoritys up and the possibillity to live life from own belief - just like "Revolution", "Get It Get It" and the partyhymn "Final Party Of The 21st Century" describe it.
On the debuetrecord you couldn't find any songs about leaving home, love and girls but leaving home means a damage of innocence - just like the first single "Heat" and the track "Let Go Of Your Love" express it. In the song "Heiress Of Valentina" Mattias brings back the character of the prostitute Valentina from the debuet record.
The fact that every single song has been written in a short, eddying period of a young man makes them more interesting and enlightening than the ones from the debuet record.

What an amazing gig on monday in nuremberg. I totally fell in love with your music and I am still completely flashed :D I really hope to see you at "rock im park" or "highfield" festival this summer....that would be awesome.
