Hailing from Canada's East and West coasts, guitarist John Oliver and violinist Lynn Kuo combine to form Canada's newest violin/guitar duo, Duo Vita.
Enthusiastically bringing life to the creations of great composers, Duo Vita challenges the violin/guitar repertoire through the exploration of contemporary sounds, new composers, and the combination of the past and present with the new and innovative.
Violinist Lynn Kuo performs as recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist in North America and Europe and has performed as guest soloist with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra of Bulgaria, Canadian Sinfonietta, and the Brandon Chamber Players.
Kuo has given numerous world premieres of compositions written and dedicated to her. She has toured Canada, United States and Europe both as soloist and as head of the Les AMIS Ensemble. Future projects include a Canadian tour as soloist with the Cantus Ensemble of Croatia, featuring a world premiere by composer Michael Pepa as well as a third European tour in 2009, during which Kuo and the Les AMIS Ensemble will present contemporary Canadian music at the renowned Music Biennale Zagreb Festival in Croatia.
John Oliver, guitarist and composer, is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre and is co-director of earsay productions. As composer/performer, Oliver has written and performed electroacoustic music for multiple loudspeaker installations, either controlling/performing the sounds from the stage with guitars with live electronics (synthesizers & computer), or performing at the mixing console. He has performed in North America as soloist at several festivals, and at the invitation of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, New Music Concerts, Standing Wave Ensemble, Stanford University and in 2005 was invited to present a "Portrait Concert" of his music at the Akousma2 Festival in Montreal. His music has been commissioned for performance by the likes of the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Judith Forst, Russell Braun, St. Lawrence String Quartet and others, and is recorded on CBC Records, empreintes DIGITALes, earsay, SNE, and ZaDiscs.

A super-song, a mega-composition, something that astonishes people, that makes them sob, laugh and rejoice. No “sophisticated” art but no cheap entertainment either. Take the best of pop, jazz, tango, opera, operetta, klezmer, soul, blues, minimalist music, virtuosic violin-music (Paganini, Wienawsky, Sarasate) and so on, or compose your own style. Everything is fine as long as the audience is crazy about it. Concerning the playing technique the composition is expected to be sophisticated, challenging and unconventional. It is expected to combine new effects with innovative sounds and hot rhythms.
