SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20
(By Senators Humphreys, Grubb, Walker and Wehrle)
Congratulating DuPont High School football team for winning its second consecutive Class AAA state football championship. Whereas, In 1992, the DuPont High School football team won its first state AAA championship in the school's history; and Whereas, In 1993, the DuPont High School football again won the Class AAA state football championship; and Whereas, The DuPont High School football team ended the 1993 regular season with nine wins and only one loss; and Whereas, Head coach Dick Whitman and the members of his coaching staff take great pride in leading their team to two consecutive Class AAA state championships for DuPont High School; and Whereas, The athletic ability of the 1993 DuPont High School football team, coupled with the outstanding sportsmanship of each member of the team, has helped to make winning a reality for DuPont High School; and Whereas, The DuPont High School football team is supported by the student body, the faculty and the entire community of Belle; therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate: That the DuPont High School football team is hereby congratulated for winning the state Class AAA championship forthe second consecutive year; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to head coach Dick Whitman and J. Patrick Law, principal of DuPont High School.This is my garter from the 1979 prom.

One of my best friends, Phillip Frye, Class of 1980, ran for governor in 2004. This is a little souvenir that he gave me when I went home for a visit. I hadn't seen him for about 20 years. If you don't know the story behind his run for the governorship, you really should look it up. He is one of the most colorful Panthers ever! I am proud to call him one of my best friends from school

DuPont Junior High
This is DuPont Junior High as it looks today. It closed in 1999 and there doesn't appear to be a plan to tear it down. A former student told me that "Kanawha County refuses to sell the property. They intend to make a gigantic grade school campus on it. They want to combine Mary Ingalls (the only elementary school in Campbell’s Creek), Malden, (Rand has been closed), Belle, Midland Trail and Cedar Grove. Hopefully, they’ll tear down the old school soon though. It really is a shameful mess."

These are my good friends "Jigsaw". They are a great band from southwestern PA. They are (left to right) Jeff Kenders, Greg Stewart, Cathy Stewart and Bob "Crafty" Crafton. I am a big fan of their music and their friendship.
This is my dad. He passed away in January, 2004 and I could not be with him when he died and I didn't get to go to his funeral. He was proud of me for being a good student so I thought he might enjoy being in the middle of all of this that I have created for my old school. I hope you're proud Dad!

This was our school the last day it opened in June, 1999. It was converted to Dupont Jr. High the following year. This building opened as the new DuPont High School in 1962 when it was built to replace the old building in Dupont City.

Betty Frame McConihay of East Bank, W.Va., was born August 15, 1925, and grew up in South Charleston, W.Va.
She graduated from South Charleston High School and earned her BA and MA from Marshall University.
She taught math and English in Kanawha County schools (DuPont High)for 33 years and, upon retirement, continued teaching math at West Virginia Institute of Technology for several terms.
William Roy Hoblitzell Jr, 72, of Marmet died January 26, 2009, He was a retired secondary schoolteacher and coach from Kanawha County schools (..Cedar Grove Community School..)
Jean Shaver Smithers, age 91, passed away on Dec. 2, 2008. She was named dance coach of the ..Dupont High School.. Majorette Corps. She led the corps from 1951 to 1967 to many honors at the Daily Mail Majorette Festivals. She was responsible for the selection of “St. Louis Blues March” music, which created a long-standing tradition of pride for the DPHS band and fans.
Barbara Butler Copenhaver passed away on Dec. 7, 2007. Mrs. Copenhaver graduated from Dupont High School (class yr unknown) and Morris Harvey College. She taught in the Kanawha County School System, mainly at Malden Elementary School, for 35 years.
Mrs.Karen Payne - Community Service/Home Economics teacher. She taught at DPHS and Riverside before passing away in 2000 of cancer.
Ms. Carla Johnson - taught at Malden Elementary and Cedar Grove Community. No other information has been submitted.
