Bio
Durga McBroom emerged a fully -formed Goddess in Los Angeles, CA. She was a voracious reader from the age of 2 1/2, hence she read everything her physician parents had, from books on metaphysics and psychology to "The Sensuous Woman" (she had read 95% of her school's library by 6th grade). That marks the beginning of her love affair with the written word, not to mention that when other little girls her age were listening to The Osmonds, she was submerging herself in the music and lyrics of Joni Mitchell. Having a rather flamboyant nature, Durga attended U.C.L.A. as a Theatre Arts Major, only leaving to play a featured role in the classic hit film "Flashdance". Other films and television roles followed, and when she got tired of playing hookers and prison inmates, Durga tackled the music business. Her first tour was with the legendary band Pink Floyd. It was the first of 3 world tours with them, as well as one solo tour with David Gilmour. Because of her work with the band, Durga moved to London, where she formed her own band Blue Pearl. Her first single, "Naked in the Rain" reached 4 on the British Pop chart, 2 on the Austrian Pop chart, and in the top 20 in almost every other European chart. In between tours Durga would return to L.A. to work at her mother's side as a medical assistant and intuitive healer. Blue Pearl went on to have 3 more chart-topping singles (including "Can You Feel The Passion" which reached 1 in the Billboard Dance Charts in the US and in UK Dance Charts), and Durga began writing poetry as well as her lyrics. Durga moved back stateside in 1994, first to Miami, and then back to her beloved L.A. in 1997. She has written an entire book of poems called "Gods and Lovers", and continues to write to maintain her sanity. Durga has worked with artists as distinguished and varied as George Clinton/P-Funk, Michael Bolton, Carole King, Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Bryan Ferry, Nina Hagen, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Albert Collins, Annabella Lwin (Bow Wow Wow), Joey Lawrence and many, many others. She sang backing vocals on the song "Don't Wait That Long" featured on the James album Seven released in 1992. She also did a duet of a song she co-wrote ("Mother Dawn"), performing with Billy Idol on his "Cyberpunk" CD in 1993. She can also be heard on another co-authored track, "Karma Tsunami", on Fishbone's 2000 release, "Fishbone and the Familyhood Nextperience Present: The Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx". In Jan. 2005, Durga went to get her Massage Practitioner Certification. She moved to Hawaii to go to the next level in her spiritual development, and to share her gifts with the Hawaiian people. Plus, hey - it's Hawaii! While basking in the sun and aloha, Durga found something she's been searching for her whole life . . . her soulmate and future husband. He grabbed her by her considerably long hair, and dragged her off into the wild, woolly woods of Big Sur, CA. They are colder, but much happier. In 2009, "Naked In The Rain" enjoyed it's 20th anniversary re-release(it hit 1 in the UK Club Breaker's chart), and a brand-new version is currently available on iTunes. Durga then took Buenos Aires by storm in Oct. 2009 by doing three shows with The End, the premier Pink Floyd tribute band in South America! She returned in April of 2010 with pals Guy Pratt and Jon Carin of Pink Floyd fame, and will be going back in March 2011 to do a show of her own material. "Hurricane Heart", Durga's first release under her own name was released on iTunes Jan. 2011. "Take My Breath Away" is the new single to be released in the Summer of 2011. And look for the smoking new dance single duet of Blue Pearl and Annabella Lwin (Bow Wow Wow) "Kiss It"!!!
