Sounds Like
Rob Storrs' songs incorporate many elements of American music. Traditional country, bluegrass, folk, mountain, pop, blues, and rock 'n' roll are combined to create his unique sound. Vocally, he is allegedly reminiscent of a strange union of Steve Earle and Elvis Costello. Durham Rule develops his sound further, exploring the wide musical range found in artists like Neil Young, Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown, Uncle Tupelo, and Steve Earle. Listen to this:
Born in Rota, Spain, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rob Storrs grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. His roots-based songs are reminiscent of such American artists as Steve Earle and Woody Guthrie. In addition to the aforementioned musicians, Storrs lists Bruce Springsteen, Uncle Tupelo and Jay Farrar, Ryan Adams, Neil Young, and Gram Parsons as major influences.
Starting with the drumkit at the age of 12, Storrs has consistently added to his palette of musical voices. He now focuses primarily on acoustic guitar and harmonica, though he is equally comfortable on bass; the mandolin has been his most recent, albeit burgeoning, addition.
Storrs has been in a variety of performing bands over the years, most recently Seattle's acoustic alt-country Dry & Dusty. His solo performance of the original composition "Barroom Girls" can be found on the Snoqualmie Valley Artists compilation Down at the Pumps and Grinds, recorded at Top of the Hill Music. Storrs also contributes vocals to the theme song "Down at the Pumps and Grinds" and bass to Lyn Jackson's "Magic Star".
Rob Storrs and Dave Taylor started playing together in the winter of 2005. They immediately hit it off and decided to form an Americana band; they had tremendous luck finding like-minded musicians in the Seattle area. First on board was vocalist and keyboardist (and published author) Rebecca Agiewich. Not too long after, bassist and vocalist Shae Fredericks joined. Original drummer Gary Miller was replaced by Dan Reed in the summer of 2006.
