Chris the Polar Bear from Boston Common's Interests
General
I am intensely passionate about writing - I mean, INTENSELY. If I score in the novel market, I will die a happy man. To a lesser extent I'm fond of trains, reading, the Orthodox Church, movies, road trips, New England, sleeping, outdoor activities, timber sports, trains....though not near as much as they used to interest me because they are getting to be a REAL pain in the ass to work on. Outside of writing, my present passion is snowboarding. Gotta survive winter in New England somehow without going stir crazy....now if only I can find something fun and exciting to do in the summer....bwahaha.

During the war of independence, Mal enlisted on the independent side (or 'browncoats' as they were known), fighting against the Alliance as a sergeant in the 57th Overlanders. He was part of the browncoat force on Hera holding Serenity Valley for over a month, before the Alliance finally overwhelmed them. A born leader, Mal kept his troops' morale up in the most hopeless of situations. Once a devout believer in God, the end of the war saw him losing his faith.
After the war, a more 'world-wise' Mal purchased a battered old Firefly-class ship, which he named Serenity, and took jobs as they came. He remains a born leader, and is fanatically dedicated to his crew. He is not, however, a born strategist, and his plans often tend to go a bit wobbly.
Still, he inspires fierce loyalty in his people.
In addition to commanding the ship for legitimate transport runs, he engages in under-the-table entrepreneurial endeavors. So he's not above
smuggling and stealing.
He trusts practically no one.
But is EXTREMELY protective of those he does trust.
He's not an evil man. He has just given up on the idea of the decency of human nature. Or that anything is worth fighting for, except the next meal and the people around him. As empty and as hard as he is, he desperately clings to and protects what makes him whole, which is the ship and everyone on it.
Most non-Browncoats know me as 'the train guy'. Most Browncoats know me as 'the captain' or 'the captain-clone'. Gets down to it, I'm just a simple man trying to make my way in the 'verse, some times being harder than others. I grew up in New England and have finally returned there after wising up and leaving Pennsylvania. I'm attempting a stab at professional writing since the railroad gave up on me. My alcohol intake is negligible and my tobacco intake is nonexistent. I do not watch sports, even when the Patriots make the Stupor Bowl. I do not watch shit-coms. In fact, I do not watch TV, period. I'm a recovering Trekkie, a hardcore Star Wars fan, and a Browncoat to the grave (Firefly and Serenity well and truly keep me sane in these times). I'm also a history snob - a World War II buff, an honourary destroyerman, and a born-again Yamatologist. I'm somewhat multilingual, as I speak a select few words of German, Greek and Chinese. I can navigate my apartment in complete darkness. I never wear sunglasses when I drive, and you'll never meet a fella who sticks tighter to the speed limit. I've been known to converse with my truck - it has, after all, been my only constant companion for the past seven years. I snowboard with no intention of ever stopping. I almost never think of myself when there are other people around. I can't get through a day without eating some kind of cheese (except Swiss). I detest kids and never want them, ever. Everyone I call a sincere friend or family member is north of Boston, and it is truly a blessed relief to be amongst them again. One man's cynicism is another man's realism. When I'm right, I'm right. I'm socially introverted, yet I'm hopelessly in love with River Tam, and if you know who she is, you're already my friend. I listen far more than I speak, which makes me a natural target for people whose energy centers entirely in the tongue and vocal chords. I live alone and that's how I face every lemon that life throws at me, alone. I suffer - in the most unequivocal sense of the word - from Asperger's Syndrome. I have a near inhuman ability to suppress my emotions. I'm a writer of science fiction, historical fiction, crime drama and the occasional essay on railroading. I live by The Tragically Hip's lyrics. Less crying and more trying; an accident's sometimes the only way to work our way back to bad decisions; and we live to survive our paradoxes.
This, boys and girls, is how I live. MySpace is how I hope to make a new friend or three or a dozen or more.
Haha it would be!!!! I'm pretty darn excited, I missed the last one so there's no way I'm missing this one. But I do want a costume for it. Hmm and that outfit would be super easy tot make too... Thanks!!
