Charles's Interests
|
| General | Tinkering with the hardware and cursing Microsoft when necessary; driving great distances for no reason; cleaning up the back yard; cleaning up the front yard if necessary; filling in most of the remaining hours with reading. (Deep dark secret: I get dressed only when I have to.) | | Music | I was raised on 1950s and 1960s R&B and pop, and I have no reason to abandon them now. I once opined that the single most relevant recording made during the last half of the 20th century was the Shirelles' "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" (Scepter Records, 1961), and still think so. This is not to say that nothing current is good, or that nothing good is current. In my younger days, though, the offerings on the radio were just the tip of the iceberg. Today, the offerings on the radio usually aren't even in the same ocean as the iceberg. Just to confuse people, I listen mostly to classical music at work. | | Movies | I'd like to be all film-critic-y here and give you a list of things that resonate with the cognoscenti, but I will admit up front that I can quote you more lines from "Airplane!" than from "Citizen Kane," both of which I consider legitimately-great pictures.
| | Television | It's considered the mark of a snobby, stuck-up, too-good-for-you elitist to claim that you don't watch television. I don't watch television, except to play back movies and such, but it's not because I'm snobby, stuck up and/or too good for you; it's just that I have other things to do and only so many hours in the day. | | Books | Favorite fiction (has been for almost 40 years): Dodie Smith, I Capture the Castle. Favorite non-fiction: Probably Robert Townsend's Up the Organization, which has guided me through the labyrinth of contemporary business. | | Heroes | Watch this space. As I get older, I keep refining the definition, mostly because I keep noticing how far I am from it personally.

Charles's Blurbs |
About me:
I am told that the average MySpace user is about 24 years old, in which case I'm here to balance out two 10-year-olds.
In my younger days, I never saw any advantage to computers. And then, in my early thirties, I got one of my own. I've been online more or less ever since, taking time out for meals of course.
I've run a blog for the last decade or so, located at dustbury.com; it is very highly regarded by those who have a high regard for such things.

Who I'd like to meet:
I seem to get along best with people whose sarcasm detectors have been finely calibrated; I tend to say things that operate on three or four levels at once. Sometimes even deliberately.
There are those whose idea of networking involves lining up potential sexual partners. While this is not my primary goal here (heck, it's not even my secondary goal here), I acknowledge the possibility, and then shrug and go on to something else.
Oh, and like any good MySpacer, I'd like to meet Tom.
