Just wanted to say thanks for Saturday - Paris 1919 in Cardiff was unforgettable. The four of you are awesome together, and I'm always blown away by your fretplay.. nice work!
(Part 2) In a way it was a relief to see the orchestra split. Far too many on that smallish stage. And two double basses? John, Joe, Michael and yourself were outstanding. And what a starter – Sold Motel. I’ve watched you solo in that a few times – blinding! – last time you played the Coal Exchange and then at the Carling Academy in Oxford in 2008 with Josh Schwartz on bass. Dirty Ass rocked and I was hoping for Pablo. Whaddya Mean’s getting stronger. Great song! And now I’m rambling on. You can tell. Zzzzz. Blah blah blah . . . .
(Part 1) Just a note to say thanks for helping me forget myself at the Cardiff gig. Aww Man, I really enjoyed watching and listening to you play. Me right in front of you. Front row. Glasses and greyish hair. I like to think it’s getting longer. I called to you and you did smile and acknowledge me – I think. Turned to the girl beside me and said that I felt like a groupie. Ha! she said, ‘You can have me if you like’. Ain’t that nice eh ;–) Honestly, John didn’t need the orchestra with you there. Staggering guitar work. Love your intro and work on Half Past France. So surreal. And I mean like – WOW! So expressive. Tons of imagination. And facial expressions – you’re a werewolf.
Strings came through nicely on Child’s Christmas and Hanky Panky. John’s voice strong on Hanky. Same with Endless Plain and Andalucia. On Paris some beauty brass solos – maybe a trombone. Wonderful! Very North of England – pit brass bands. And Graham Greene was jumping. Happy. Lovely trumpet. Antarctica was pure joy. John’s diction very clear. Macbeth, astounding Rock ‘n’ Roll. Nearly pulled the Coal House down. Yeah, I thought the Paris album worked well. And all of this before ‘the band’.
