PLEASE VISIT HTTP://MYSPACE.COM/DUSTYKELEHER ......THERE ARE CHANGES AFOOT IN CAMP DUSTY. HE IS DIGGING INTO THE PAST ..............................................Dusty plays original folk songs written with an Irish feel and also finds and plays off the beaten track Irish Ballads. He frequently performs with Amy Lounder on fiddle and backing vocals.
They perform in pubs, receptions, house concerts and weddings.
They can also be found from time to time busking at The Halifax Farmer's Market . Dusty has been a regular busker at the market since 1994
His early influences were Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Waterboys, Van Morrison, U2 and the folk and blues music of North America. He would listen to the Anthology of American Folk Music daily and track down bootlegs of rare Dylan recordings.
Nowadays he listens mostly to Irish Traditional Music. His favorites are Planxty and the solo work of Andy Irivine, Paul Brady and Christy Moore as well as Luke Kelly, and many many other artist he hears on Irish radio over the internet.
As a way of exploring his Irish heritage, Dusty is learning old ballads and tunes. He is also studying the Irish language and sings a few children's song in Irish.
He is also becoming increasingly interested in the music descended from the Irish traditional and plays accompaniment at Contra Dances.
Has been playing music professionally for about 15 years. In the late 90's to the early 0ughts, he performed and recorded as Dusty Sorbet. His 2004 CD, Wanderers Grounds , was nominated for Best Folk/Roots Recording by the Music Industry of Nova Scotia.
He dropped the name Sorbet and went by Dusty Keeler for two records, 2006's Rain Or Shine, a folk rock record featuring his band at the time called The Rusty Wheels, and 2007's Under the Radar and over the Canyon, a solo effort recording on a brooding Sunday afternoon.
He is now going by the spelling of his name his ancestors used when they emigrated to Canada, escaping the hardships brought on by the Great Famine in Ireland in the 1840's.
In the summer of 2009, he released an EP of Irish Ballads and original songs called East To Ireland, volume 1. A full length expanding on this EP will be released in the Winter of 2010.
