About me:
Your favorite enemies begon 8 jaar geleden toen zanger Alex Foster en gitarist Sef Lemelin de folk rock band ‘The Riddlers’ oprichten. Samen met zangeres Isabel Paradis en bassist Ben Lemelin tekenden ‘The Riddlers’ een contract bij een Amerikaans bedrijf gevestigd in Nashville. Ze tourden zowel in Canada als in de VS en brachten twee onafhankelijke albums uit. Na een kleine vijf jaar, hoe moeilijk het ook was om die beslissing te nemen na al het harde werk dat ze hadden gedaan om ‘The Riddlers’ te vestigen in de Amerikaanse folk scène, beslisten de leden van de band in de lente van 2003 om er een punt achter te zetten.
Na verscheidene maanden rust, schrijven en studio werk, kwam de band gekend als ‘The Riddlers’ begin 2004 terug, en samen met gitarist Jeff Beaulieu vormden ze een alternatieve rock band onder de naam ‘In This Life’. Hiermee brachten ze het album ‘Quiet Day For Sunshine Breathers’ uit.
2004 begon krachtig voor ‘In This Life’. De bandleden werkten aan nieuw materiaal, werden uitgenodigd om een showcase te geven voor de prestigieuze Canadian Music Week en weigerden een deal met een Amerikaans indie label. Ondertussen voerde Alex Foster weergaloos campagne tegen een welgeorganiseerde Neonazi beweging die gratis cd’s met racistische teksten uitdeelde in Amerikaanse scholen, 'the Schoolyard Project'. Zo kwam ‘In This Life’ in alle grote Canadese media en stonden ze bekend als antiracisme activisten. Het zorgde er niet alleen voor dat de Amerikaanse autoriteiten in actie kwamen maar het was ook de geboorte van ‘Rock N Rights’, de pro mensenrechten organisatie van de groep. Alex Foster werd aangesproken door een belangrijk film regisseur om een documentaire te maken over zijn leven, dat o.a. zijn vroegere rol als neonazi leider en huidige rol als vertegenwoordiger van Amnesty International en muzikant ging belichten.
2005 werd een heel belangrijk jaar in het leven van de ‘In This Life’ bandleden toen ze een telefoontje kregen van de meeste invloedrijke en gerespecteerde manager in Canada, Bob Luhtala. Na de komst van drummer Charles Allicy en het tekenen van een contract bij Luhtala management besliste de band in begin 2006 hun naam te veranderen in ‘Your Favorite Enemies’. Ze begonnen te werken aan hun eerste EP 'And If I Was To Die In The Morning... Would I Still Be Sleeping With You' die uitkwam in juni 2007, en de 2e EP 'Love Is A Promise Whispering Goodbye' kwam uit in juni 2008. Deze zomer zal de band de studio weer induiken om hun eerste vollege album op te nemen!
