Wow, where to begin.......I am influenced by everything I hear. Even if I don’t like it, it influces me. As far as main influences on what my music sounds like, and how I build it, I would have to say the biggest one is Tori Amos. She rocks me in places I never knew could rock. I am also influenced from music by Amy Lee, Danny Elfman, Nightwish, Within Temptaion and a bunch more. Music inspiries me as well as art, people, friends, family, situations, nature, novels, noises....anything. Writing for me is a give and take kinda thing. Take in my surrounds, give out music.

The Fool - This is a brand new song that I wrote for Creation in 4. (Check out my blog to see what Creation in 4 is all about.) The lyrics are also posted in a blog because the camera really cuts out all the p's, s's and t's. Give them a read if you want because I think the lyrics are really important to this song. I went down to the road - acoustic - Another song from Creation in 4. This time I wanted to write in a gospel-like style. Again the lyrics are posted in the blog...camera's just don't pick up the best diction. haha This is what I came up with...hope you enjoy! (At the end, my mother was coming in from work, and you can hear her saying "Hi Der" twice. Oh well. lol)
I have been writing music since I was a little kid, making up songs, and singing them to my parents. I didn't really get serious about it however until I hit mid-high school. Ever since then it kinda took off.
I am a self-taught pianist, and I have been playing since mid-seventh grade. I have been singing all my life and just finished my major in classical vocal performance at Western Connecticut State University.
As of right now, I am a solo performer. Just me and the piano. I used to sing and play with a band but now I am just on my own. I am working on a CD right now consisting of all new, original material. I am a writing fiend, so I am sure there will be many more CD's and songs to come.
Other assorted music facts about me may include that I've played the trumpet since 4th grade, I have been in about 30 musicals and plays, I play the flute and piccolo, and I am thinking about going to grad-school for film scoring. I love music theory (which I know is kinda weird) and really enjoy looking at how songs are built.
My music comes from everything I have ever encountered. I believe it is foolish to say that anything in this world is 100% original, because you are formed as a person/artist/musician by your experiences and by your surroundings. My music comes from my heart however, rather it be happy, sad, pissed off, hopeful, hopeless, rage-filled or even in love. The music does not lie. This is my release, my passion....my art.

hey derek. Im stressing about a 15 pg paper thats due on thursday in which i keep procrastinating. Its gonna bite me in the ass thats whats gonna happen. I finish school next week maybe even the week after but we should definatly hang soon. Do u have any plans for the summer?
Brother. I am so SORRY I wasn't able to come see you last night. I've got that evil lower back thing going on and Trav has bronchitis, he just got his meds yesterday. Tell Mom and Dad we've been dead for days but have risen. I hope it went well, I'm sure you rocked their faces off.
