Band Bio
Doxology is a group of 5 individuals who have come together to orchestrate some of the most epic, thought provoking, cutting edge Pop-Rock music of the Y2K decade. Founded in Seattle, WA by lead singer/songwriter Luke McPherson and best friend and Production Manager Paul Burton in early 2004. They recruited Tacoma guitarist/songwriter Michael Hemming, drummer/percussionist and native New Yorker Daniel Torres, Seattle bassist Derek Brown and rounded out the line-up with New York based brother/actor/keyboardist/singer and producer Gabriel McPherson. By June of 2005 the group was in full force and well on its way to becoming one of the most influential bands in the Northwest Music Scene and beyond.
In the summer of 2005 Doxology won the National Title for Jillian's Battle of the Bands competition. Competing locally, regionally and then nationally, Doxology beat out over 250 quality bands from around the United States securing the opportunity to open Heineken's AmsterJam Music Festival in New York City. This amazing event featured the Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, Garbage, Diddy and many others with tens of thousands of fans in attendance. During that year the group also shared the stage with other notable acts such as Hoobastank, Fishbone, Garbage, Wyclef Jean, and Grandmaster Flash. In 2006 the band was asked to contribute music to Steve Lawson’s 9th annual Christmas in the Northwest CD (a Northwest tradition) featuring artists such as Dave Mathews, Heart and Kenny G. In 2007 Doxology had the honor of opening for American Idol Runner-up and close friend Blake Lewis during a Holiday Party Celebration of his first release “Audio Day Dream”.
By the summer of 2007 the band formed an alliance with L.A. based Engineer and Producer Jorge Vivo (Josh Groban, David Foster, Ingram Hill) and recorded a four song EP at the world famous London Bridge Studios in Seattle. This project helped launch the group in a musical direction that would prove to be the beginnings of their signature sound. “We’re not interested in repackaging something everyone's already heard and then telling you it's different”, says singer Luke McPherson. “We want you to experience the music and immediately be completely unable to classify it. There's no formula for life. There shouldn't be for music. It's about art and expression, and if you're lucky, finding something new that changes everything. If those things could ever be said of our band, we've done our job.”
Doxology is a band who is changing everything. In this hyper-speed culture where groups are signed from their practice spaces, where over-hyped genres live and die between the issues of a magazine, Doxology is an anachronism, a throwback: a dedicated group of friends and musicians with talent to spare and a fan base that grows larger with every day, every disc, and every download. From hard hitting songs like “Run Around” to moody/melodic ballads like “Stationary Man” to weighty political statements like “The Revolution”, it is immediately clear this band has something special; they know themselves, who they are and where they are headed. Each song is a new story, a new shade of emotion that breaths a unique blend of absolutely solid Pop-Rock beats mixed with head-bobbing Roots style grooves, edgy and emotional guitar tones, driving bass, soulful/punchy and sometimes haunting melodies and an undeniable level of keyboard prowess and production that will leave any band wanting.
"This band really has it all... Great Looks, Amazing Talent, Professionalism and very importantly - Terrific Music... They are the complete package..." Alisa Hashimoto, KPLZ Star 101.5
”The fundamental orientation seems a fluid blend of rock and neo-soul. Lead vocalist Luke McPherson evokes the tensile urgency of the best neo-soul singers. The musicians demonstrate the skillful flexibility to fulfill all the band's musical ambitions. They are about to make history.” - The Triple Door, Seattle
“Doxology definitely has our vote as “The Band to Watch” this year…They are good looking and sound even better – cutting edge, very NOW! A rare and fresh breath of air…Simply amazing!” - Jennifer Johnson, Diamond Rock Productions
" Doxology fans continue to jam our phone lines each time they visit our morning show. They are definitely heading for stardom. The Seattle Music scene has a pure winner on their hands." - Bender, KISS 106.1FM Personality
