  • Bio

distantyearningalert was initially conceived in 2002 to emit negative energy, but, in turn, it became a channel for creative residue to flow and it still is flowing up to this day. In Robert Fripp's words, distantyearningalert became "a way of doing things", with the things themselves being very vast and diverse. As a way of doing things, it is not surprising that distantyearningalert has been changing over the years. Inspired by progressive rock, electronic music, video games music and the blues, the first compositions were created as early as May 2002. The initial output may altogether be pretentious, but on its latter days, distant yearning alert has been flowing with more creativity and originality (or with being more different from anybody else). distantyearningalert started from the attempt to write 'proper' pop songs with touches of electronic, moving to more experimental soundscapes, and up to the point where distantyearningalert finally decided to only compose mood-based instrumental pieces from 2005 to 2007. Sunday musician, art performer, and sometimes poet Sandya Maulana started distantyearningalert as a vehicle for his performance art but he soon realized that distantyearningalert had a will on its own. distantyearningalert began as a side project and rarely stole the show, even until now although it sometimes performed live once or twice. Nevertheless, some of distantyearningalert's songs have met different destinies and larger audience, becoming music scores and soundtracks to an independent film and a few stage productions of contemporary plays. The music production in distantyearningalert's creative process is slow but steady, with a handful of songs in hand. distant yearning alert paused for a while in 2006, but in 2007, it has promised to wake up from a year-long sleep, rediscovering old songs and creating new songs on its way. distantyearningalert is now intensely creating a series of songs under the title of A Vacant Day. This series is slated for completion in September 2008 and will be available in various places over the internet, for free.
