Bio
For the past seven years Dylan Stone has been writing and performing songs, playing across North America in clubs, pubs, cafes, and house concerts. At 26 he is already a mature and reflective songwriter. Dylan's predominantly folk-rock style of music embodies a deep respect for the acoustic roots and folk traditions but also an admiration for sonic landscapes and the power of electric music. Major influences include Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, and Wilco. His forthcoming, self-titled EP was recorded with Marc L'Esperance in Vancouver and Adrian Dolan in Victoria; a tour of BC and Alberta will coincide with its release. -

Dylan Stone sets down roots in Victoria
A few, short years ago, singer-songwriter Dylan Stone stood at a crossroads. Selling all of his possessions to pay for an American tour with a friend, he played whatever venues happened to be looking for live entertainment. The pair managed to make it from Stone’s hometown of Oshawa,ON to San Diego before the money ran out. Luckily for Stone, the tour gods intervened. He won $500 cash, but instead of heading back home, Stone decided to take a leap of faith by boarding a train bound for Nashville.
Stone’s Nashville excursion was a defining point in his blossoming musical career. The 24-year-old has already criss-crossed the continent several times in search of artistic mentors. He came to Victoria,BC on a whim in 2005 to take up residence at the Ocean Island hostel, which was a hotspot for music at the time... Stone’s stay in Victoria was temporarily interrupted, however, when he decided to do a year of music school in Kingston,ON. “I went back there hoping to validate my love for music with a diploma,” he says. He only lasted a year in the two-year program. “I realized that what I really wanted to do was play music: instead of writing about musicians, I wanted to be the musician. ".. Upon his return to Victoria, Stone set down deep roots in a scene he describes as “concentrated and incredibly diverse.” Playing in several bands of various genres, including roots, psych rock, and country, Stone is preparing to release his debut self-titled EP... “This EP is going to be a testament to the past five years of work I’ve put into writing songs,” he says. The album is being recorded with Adrian Dolan (Ridley Bent, Oliver Swain) in Victoria and Marc L'Esperance ( Ray Condo, Linda McRae) in Vancouver. “ Working with such great artists is the ultimate validation to my writing because I've worked very hard to get a chance to play with artists I admire." ..
