Eamon Harkin is the co-owner of New Release and a music obsessed New York transplant from the North of Ireland. He is a DJ, a promoter, producer and a lover of modern art, and he’s traveled more than the average bear. He will also beat you in a chess match. .
Arriving in the US in 2004, Eamon was immediately inspired by his new surroundings—the crossroads of some of his favorite music: punk, indie rock and underground dance music—so he started a party called 'Calling All Kids'. The party’s success catapulted him onto line-ups with the likes of The Cramps and soon into a residency alongside hip-hop forefather Afrika Bambaataa at APT and another residency called FUN at the then-newly opened Studio B. At FUN Eamon actively led the bookings and production of the party, bringing a rich variety of talent through the doors ranging from the maximal boisterous dance music of Berlin's Modeselektor to old school electro of The Egyptian Lover and the new school disco of Escort. During this time he somehow managed to hold down a bi-monthly residency in Berlin at TAPE, a club which hosts the worlds freshest DJ talent on a weekly basis.
These days Eamon produces Mister Saturday Night a party which the Village Voice called 'The year's clubbing high-light' with partner Justin Carter (with whom he owns New Release) and organizes the outdoor, summertime series Sunday Best with Justin and Doug Singer. Along with his cohort James Friedman, he also runs Prime Time—a showcase for classically minded yet forward thinking dance music which has hosted guests spanning from Stacey Pullen to Hercules & Love Affair. In between all that he travels from Minneapolis to London to Paris to play for the likes of Pilooski at his DIRTY Soundsystem party and the seminal Phonica nights at T Bar and produces a bi-weekly radio show - Reckless Radio on Viva Radio. Also a music producer, Eamon has released remixes for Crystal Castles and Professor Murder as well as a sell-out record on the Wurst Edits imprint in 2008. He has a release slated for R&S records and a few other surprises in store for 2009. He’s always got something up his sleeve.
