From "Voices from the Edge" by David Jay Brown
David: Who particularly inspired you?
..
Jerry Garcia:
Actually no particular musician inspired me, apart from maybe Chuck Berry. But all of the music from the fifties inspired me.
I didn't really start to get serious about music until I was eighteen and I heard my first bluegrass music.
I heard Earl Scruggs play five-string banjo and I thought, that's something I have to be able to do.
I fell in love with the sound and I started earnestly trying to do exactly what I was hearing.
That became the basis for everything else - that was my model.

Hi There Jeff!
Hope all is well with you and Blueground!
I just wanted to let you know about a great show coming up on Sunday. It is a band called the Afromotive, based out of Asheville, NC.
They play at Smith's Olde Bar on Sunday, August 31 at 10pm. This nine piece afrobeat ensemble fuses funk and extended improv to get everyone on the dancefloor up and moving.
Thirty-third generation djembe player Adama Dembele from Cote d‘Ivoire, West Africa brings his vast musical knowledge and touring experience to the Afromotive. These traditional West African rhythms combined with a mentality for upbeat funk music is what the Afromotive brings to its audiences. Other instrumentalists have been trained in funk, jazz, and classical music as well as extensively studying the rhythms of West Africa; collectively they have created a sound that crosses musical and ethnic boundaries.

Congratulations! I went three weeks raw back a few years ago. The most amazing thing to me was the return of my sense of smell.
I suddenly understood the ability of Native American trackers!
