To name but a few, in no particular order: John Denver, Elton John, The Moody Blues, John Williams (the film composer), Jerry Goldsmith, countless fellow Celtic harpers, Enya, several fellow Church of God members (Sonia King [a MySpace member], Dave Mirigian and the Radiators, and others), Suzanne Haik-Vantoura, the young Charlotte Church, countless choirs...and God, not least through His awesome "music of the spheres".
Johanan (not his given name) calls its music "Christian / Electronica / Experimental". To those in the professional music business, these terms may mean one set of things. To Johanan, they mean 1) the music is inspired by apostolic rather than post-apostolic, "mainstream" Christian ideals (see www.lcg.org for more details); 2) it is based on electronic composition and arrangement, using Finale, Scala and other software; 3) within those boundaries, its poet-composer is willing to try almost anything once. ;)
Earthlight Orchestra was inspired (both in concept and in name) by a major orchestra in Johanan's allegorical universe, THE COVENANT OF LIGHT. The foundation of that orchestra's instrumentation was the Violin Octet (aka The New Violin Family) as invented and promoted by the Catgut Acoustical Society (see their Web site). The style of EO's music likewise was inspired mostly by the "Stella Nova" style invented for that allegorical universe. In Stella Nova, one is not limited to alternation between relative major and minor keys, but may alternate between relative modes of other kinds (diatonic, diatonic-chromatic, and both kinds with "variable degrees"). In truth, though, EO's music is influenced by virtually every kind of real-world music Johanan has ever heard, most notably in recent works by the music of Enya, Suzanne Haik-Vantoura, and the young Charlotte Church.
As much as possible, EO's original MIDIs are converted from the default equal temperament of Finale to just tuning, using the Scala freeware program. This gives (for most intervals) an unmatched purity and (for some intervals) a most interesting "flavor". (The resultant MP3 and WAV files, used on MySpace and in EO's CDs respectively, have the same just tuning.) The tonic pitch of the mode must be chosen very carefully in order to make sure the Stella Nova pieces have their primary chords "in tune" (perfect, major, minor, diatonic tritone) rather than more or less dissonant.
Johanan much appreciates the positive responses he's received to date concerning the music of EO, as presented on his first recording, LAUGHTER, TEARS & DREAMS. The title is inspired by the three kinds of states that the old Irish harpers were taught to provoke: laughter, tears, and sleep (or more euphonically said, laughter, lament and lullaby).
Thank you for the return comment! I'm sorry that I have been unable to honour your request until now.
I've listend to your tracks. Your programming is very inventive and your melody lines are playful and happy.
Taking your project further to a big studio with an orchestra and even choir, I can easliy envision yur compositions translated very nicely into some very atmospheric movie scores. Do you compose for and sell to television stations. With the arrangements, they could transform these pieces into much bigger scale projects. Your style does tell me that a certain media market could be explored.
Basically, what I'm saying is that evcen though this particular work is (as you have mentioned) more simple in structure, I can see alot of promise as you explore avenues with it.
Thank you for your friendship and congratulations for being a comrade artist, who is passionate in what he does.
greetings...i appreciate the add!! if you get a chance, check out my tunes and let me know what you think. i value your opinion and am always looking for feedback...good OR bad! Thanks again and take care. Cheers, Matt
