I've got broad tastes--country (the newer stuff),the blues, classic rock, jazz, classical music, blue grass, gospel, contemporary Christian, Opera. I'm a longtime (huge) fan of John Denver, Peter Paul and Mary, the Eagles, Rich Mullins, Meatloaf, Billy Joel, Kathy Mattea, CCR, Michael Card, Andrea Bocelli, etc. But I'm probably the biggest fan of front porch pickers and garage bands because that's where you find music in its purest form.
Movies
Absolutely anything with Harrison Ford or John Cusack in it.
My standing favorites are: Princess Bride (my husband and I went to see this on our first date), Star Wars, Close Encounters, Dirty Dancing (I'm a normal woman, okay?), It Could Happen to You, Serendipity, You've Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping, Must Love Dogs, Grosse Point Blank, Martian Child, and Monty Python anything. Pop-faves: Pirates of the Carribean, Something's Gotta Give, Sixth Sense, The Village, and Signs.
Television
I am an X-filer (think cult-member) and can probably recite most of the shows from memory. Current faves: Ghost Hunters, Dead Like Me, Dr. Who, Heroes and Planet Earth. Other old favs: Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Dr. Who.
Books
I read everything. I'm partial to the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, Christopher Moore, John Irving, John Grisham, Ray Bradbury, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Douglas Adams, George R. R. Martin, Asimov, a little Koontz, and Simon Haynes (See profile on friend's list). I hate most chick lit. My favorite poets (just to name a few) are Dorianne Laux, Marge Piercy, E.E. Cummings, Robert Frost, Gary Snyder, Mary Oliver, and Everson (Father Antonius) and Blue.
About me: I'm a forty-four year old mother of four boys. They range from 10 to 19 years old and are the most important part of my life. I've been married to my best friend for twenty years. We share our home with five dogs and six cats. I homeschool for a living (no money in it, but the benefits are great).
My husband works long hours at a cheese factory to provide for us. His only return on this is four boys who adore him and a wife that thinks he's pretty neat too. As he tells it, that's more than he could ask for. He loves to hike, read, and fish. If you want to debate philosophy and religion, he's your guy. He has a BS in both as well as a minor in history.
I'm a contemporary sci-fi writer (In other words, I write stories about normal realities that have become twisted). I've written and published numerous short stories whilst learning how to compose novels. About a year ago I finally wrote one I was pleased with. I've been looking for an agent for it for a few months and I'm beginning to suspect I may have to rethink my retirement plan. Meanwhile, because I'm a glutton for punishment, and my other retirement plan (the lottery) isn't working out well either, I'm writing a fourth (sequel to the third).
If you stand still long enough you'll also find out I'm an obsessive gardener. From March to October, from early am until it gets too hot, you'll find me outside digging in the dirt, talking to my plants, and plotting the (peaceful and organic) demise of the the newest pest.
My family and I attend the local Methodist church. I sing a little, play a little guitar, and oversee the church youth group. The video below is my oldest son's arrangement of Carol of the Bells. His band (which plays everything from classic rock to contemporary Christian) is called Each One.
Who I'd like to meet: Other people serious about writing, X-Files fans, parents of teens (We need all the help we can get), people who I can talk books with, animal lovers, and Christians.
