I'm posting this video for Holy Week (the week preceding Easter...) Interesting clips from The Passion of the Christ w/ Celine Dion singing (song NOT from the movie...)

Television
"We have become so accustomed to it's discontinuities that we are no longer struck dumb, as any sane person would be, by a newscaster who having just reported that a nuclear war was inevitable goes on to say that he will be right back after this word from Burger King. ...One can hardly overestimate the damage that such juxtapositions do to our sense of the world as a serious place. The damage is especially massive to youthful viewers who depend so much on television for their clues on how to respond to the world. In watching television news, they, more than any other segment of the audience, are drawn into an epistemeology based on the assumption that all reports of cruelty and death are greatly exaggerated and, in any case, not to be taken seriously..." -from AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business by Neil Postman (Neil Postman (March 8, 1931 - October 5, 2003) was a prominent American educator, media theorist and cultural critic. For more than forty years, he was associated with New York University.
Postman was something of an old-fashioned humanist, who in the face of extraordinary technological change in contemporary society held firmly to his beliefs that there is a limit to the promise of new technology, and that it cannot be a substitute for human values.)
However tempting it may be to get rid of this sometimes mindless dribble, I do depend on it for news and diversion at times-- and I do like the Simpsons, Fraiser, a few other choice cuts and PBS.
