Spring Heeled Jack by The East Dulwich Jug Band
Eighteen thirty eight on Dog Kennel Hill
Mary Stevens walking, she's a serving girl
she starts to run, it's starting to rain
until she gets to the top of Cut Throat Lane
then a figure jumps out of the black
he kisses her and she kisses him back
it's spring heeled jack
Eighteen thirty nine on Lavender Hill
Flora Cook walking, she's working girl
she starts to talk, but he had his way
then off he leaps and he didn't pay
he's a figure jumps out of the black
he kisses her and she kisses him back
it's spring heeled jack
banjo solo
he's a figure jumps out of the black
he kisses her and she kisses him back
it's spring heeled jack
eighteen forty two to the sound of the kazoo
Hannah was a jigging, she's a dancing girl too
she's from the wrong side of town
Jack tried to kiss her but she knocked him down
he's a figure jumps out of the black
he kisses her and she kisses him back
it's spring heeled jack
from London town to Liverpool
he kissed and he kissed he was nobody's fool
then off he'd jump and abandon the girl
leaving everyone of them in a whirl
he's a figure jumps out of the black
he kisses her and she kisses him back
it's spring heeled jack
Years went by, his fame increased
then suddenly his springing ceased
hasn't been seen since nineteen oh four
but who's that guy in black knocking at my door?
he's the guy who jumps out of the black
I kiss him and he kisses me back
it's spring heeled jack
About me: A top song and another top night at The Plough! Can't wait for Camp Bestival and the main stage. We are meeting at the solar powered cinema saturady at 12, and playing live on the main stage sunday lunchtime! Come on! Get your jugs out for the lads! See you at Lulworth Cove
The 5th Plough Session
Fred's great lyric and Angus on the piano were just some of this months highlights, the songs called "The Concrete House." I love its weirdness - thanks to Julian for the tempo, Angus for the middle 8 and Keiron for shooting the video. See you all at Blythe Hill Fields - we play at 1,15, so we should try to get there for 11.30? Gonna try and make the song book this week and get that on line too. R
The 4th Plough Session

2nd Plough Session ..
After the amazing success of the 1st Plough Session the East Dulwich Jug Band are pleased to invite you all back on Wednesday 2nd April, always at The Plough, 381 Lordship Lane, SE22. We don't know what the song should be about - but lets keep the theme local. Thoughts so far are - Brockley Jack, Boudicea, William Blake, Enid Blyton or Boris Karloff. Karloff sounds best to me so far - lots of great material to work with. If you want to post comments here that would be great, or just email us at eastdulwichjugband@gmail.com. See you all real soon!
Execellent Jug, can anybody persuade some brass players to show ? - I think we need a horn section - especially if we are to tackle a Doowop style as has been suggested....by John..
I am planning to come along tomorrow with baglama and mandolin. As for song ideas, how about the recent (supposed) East Dulwich UFO sighting? There is that beautiful Sufjan Stevens songs, Concerning the UFO Sighting near Highland Illinois', sure we could do the same for Peckham Rye common.
I'm gonna go to the Southbank soon maybe this week, to meet tamsin and have the tour. you wanna come? if so which days/times are good for you? let me know! x
