The musicians in Easter Rising started up while attending the Roman Catholic seminary The Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. Although some members of Easter Rising no longer study for the priesthood, they all remain committed as a band to the purpose of Easter Rising: the fostering of communio for whoever has ears to listen.

Easter Rising is about the experience of communio through music. To the band, traditional music takes a moral stand for beauty, authenticity and solidarity. It is a rejection of radical autonomy in favor of radical communio. In a world of isolation and alienation, perpetuated by nihilistic pop culture, Easter Rising stands for, in the eloquent words of Amy Wolf, “the real possibility that you are not all alone.”

And, while Easter Rising has a traditional Irish soul, its sound has changed over the years. They blend Irish melody with rock-and-roll, bluegrass, and soul music. It is something we have come to term “Folk n’Roll, Irish Soul.”

From the most riotous tunes to the most rousing ballads Easter Rising produces an inexhaustible sound and a meaningful experience. Come and participate in the communio.
