Who I'd like to meet:

POET HIGHLIGHT:

MAYA ANGELOU

Photobucket
A modern day renaissance woman, Ms. Angelou is a poet, educator, historian, best-selling author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist, producer and director, just to name a few. Ms. Angelou has inspired many today and no doubt will continue to do so in the future.

A classic piece:

I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS

A free bird leaps on the back
Of the wind and floats downstream
Till the current ends and dips his wing
In the orange suns rays
And dares to claim the sky.

But a BIRD that stalks down his narrow cage
Can seldom see through his bars of rage
His wings are clipped and his feet are tied
So he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
Of things unknown but longed for still
And his tune is heard on the distant hill for
The caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
And the trade winds soft through
The sighing trees
And the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright
Lawn and he names the sky his own.’

But a caged BIRD stands on the grave of dreams
His shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
His wings are clipped and his feet are tied
So he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with
A fearful trill of things unknown
But longed for still and his
Tune is heard on the distant hill
For the caged bird sings of freedom.

Hi East Hampton Public Library :) Long time no talk. Just wanted to say CSLF will be doing its Financial Aid night at East Hampton High School on November 6th!! My colleague Amie will be there to explain financial aid and answer questions for students and families!

Just a reminder to let your patrons know we've got a great blog going here on MySpace, with topics such as how to avoid scholarship scams and why some student loans may be forgiven!

We also have a new FREE email service called eTips - year by year checklists for college planning, in your inbox!!

http://blog. myspace. com/first_rate is where to find the good stuff.

Coming soon: how not to damage your credit as you shop for an alternative loan for school!

And for teachers and financial aid professionals, hop on over to our new blog outside of myspace for our primer on how to use Web 2.0 in higher education!

As usual, questions and comments are appreciated!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY East Hampton Public Library!! Libraries are one of the coolest places on earth. Their importance dates back to the Great Library of Alexandria...what would we do without them?!

Photobucket

I hope this is a great year for you!!

Your friend,

Rai Aren, co-author of Secret of the Sands, Amazon Bestseller

I didn't even notice the grammar mistake at first, but it's ok, this is MySpace, not School Library Journal!
