East meets Everyone is a community of Fat Chance Belly Dance format American Tribal Style Dancers, based in East Anglia. Our aim is to create a fun, supportive event founded on friendship and respect where ATS dancers get together and let their hair down!
This is an opportunity to meet other ATS dancers, improve and challenge your improv skills and enjoy the magic of dancing together.
We meet every 2 months on a Saturday afternoon in Colchester Essex.
East meets Everyone events are NOT workshops. There is no structured teaching or drilling, with no directing plan for the session other than dancing together. It's like an ATS party!
Here is a relaxed space for you to experiment with combos and dance with people you don't normally dance with to a variety of songs - without the pressure of a performance. Where it doesn't matter if you get into lead and the entire format falls out the back of your head, you muddle your cues, or have a bellydance crash - as long as you pick yourself up and keep going!
True improv!
East Meets Everyone are a non profit organisation and all those who are involved donate their time and efforts for free! The hall we hire asks for a donation to their own charity which goes towards housing young homeless people.
We are disability friendly! - if you are a dancer with health condition consult your doctor before attending and we are not liable or responsible for any injury or health issues sustained from dancing. That said, we are on the ground floor, there are disabled toilets, and you are free to take breaks anytime you wish and manage your own level of involvement. We will help in any way we are able to, mail us in advance if you wish to discuss any issues you may have :)

Anything left over after Hall Hire is donated to a selected Charity chosen by the attendees on the day.
Dancing Level -
As we are not teaching at this event, it is not suitable for those who have no prior knowledge of ATS. We ask that you understand formations and are familiar with the moves from FCBD Video 1 or the six week Dance Fundamentals course. If you are still getting to grips with it all that's fine, nobody expects you to be perfect (we're certainly not!). We ask that you arrive with an open attitude to giving it a go in both fast and slow. For more experienced dancers there will be LOTS of opportunity to challenge yourselves. If you have any questions please have a chat with us first and we will do our best to advise you. We are a friendly bunch so do not hesitate to contact us.
Things to bring and General stuff -
Bring lots of munchies to share, and any music you wish to dance to. We will have a CD player and Ipod speakers. Music will be rotated randomly and you'll probably be made to dance Raquy and the Caveman's song Caravan! - There are toilets to get changed in, and a small kitchen with crockery and drinking water for our use. We have no age restrictions but if you are under 16 you will need to be accompanied by a responsible dancing adult and let us know in advance. We ask that you do not bring infants or young children.
ATS is a beautiful language of steps and gestures enabling dancers to create real live art in the moment - allowing you to dance with absolutely anyone who knows the language. East meets everyone is about dancers from all over the UK getting together to do just this. We believe building a supportive community is just as important as the technique of dancing together.
Looking forward to dancing with you!
