Based in Izmir/Turkey, ‘East of the Sun’ was founded from the remnants
of the auxiliary project of former SNK guitarist Burak Celik, ‘Dreamlands’,
which had a Swedish-style, melodic death-metal sound. Starting from
March 1998, the idea was of a one-man project, for about a year.
However, Dreamlands had evolved into a band project with new members,
Burak Akin and Levent Ak. At that time the band had started studio works
and recording sessions. However, due to professional occasions, it took
many years for the trio to come up together to form new work output.
In October 2007, the band got back again. And more recently, after tons
of suggestions, Dreamlands have finally settled its name as ‘East of the
Sun’ as the band itself evolved again to a line-up with the newcomer
members Ali Murat Sevi and Anıl Akgün. The overall musical perspective
has again Swedish-style death metal influence within as well as goth-rock,
progressive and 80’s synth-pop. With a step forward, the band has tried
lyrics in Turkish for the first time. Nowadays, the band is recording their
first demo which will probably see the light of the day by summer 2009.

Çelik'in İsveç-tarzı melodik death metal etkileri taşıyan yan projesi
Dreamlands’e dayanmaktadır. Dreamlands, Mart 1998’den itibaren,
yaklaşık bir yılboyunca tek kişilik proje olarak devam etti. Ancak Burak
Akın ve Levent Ak’ın katılımı ile Dreamlands bir grup haline geldi. Bu
dönemde stüdyo ve kayıt çalışmalarına başlayan grubun, üyelerinin
mesleki faaliyetlerin yoğunluğu nedeniyle, yeni çalışmalar oluşturmak
üzere tekrar bir araya gelmesi uzun yıllar sürdü.
Ekim 2007’de, yeni üyeler Ali Murat Sevi ve Anıl Akgün'ün katılımıyla grup
grup yeni bir kadroya kavuşurken, ortaya atılan birçok öneriden sonra
‘East of the Sun’ grup adı olarak belirlendi. Genel müzikal perspektifte yine
İsveç tarzı death metal etkileri sürerken aynı zamanda goth-rock, synth
pop ve progressive metal etkileri de kendini göstermeye başladı. Aynı
zamanda grup ilk kez Türkçe söz denemesi yaparak kayıtlara başladı.
East of the Sun şu aralar 2009 yazında çıkarmayı planladıkları demonun
kaydı ile meşgul.
East of the Sun grubu olarak, grubun geçmişinde görev almış ve müzik
üretim sürecine katılmış olan Nilay Parlar ve Özgür Sayın'a ve ayrıca
ilham veren lirikleri ve desteğinden dolayı sevgili Anna Arakelyan'a da
teşekkürü bir borç biliriz...

Covan (vocalist of DECAPITATED), was seriously injured in last years tour bus accident, which sadly claimed the life of Vitek(drummer of DECAPITATED). Covan is still going thru a long and difficult recovery and needs our help.
