East Old Topside is a Knoxville-based band of four boys with nothing more than the instruments they possess, the desire to create meaningful music, and to make some great memories along the way. Beginning in late 2007, with original members Chase Sterling, Joel Hollingsworth, Michael Livingston, the experimental band felt like there could be more talent put to use with additional members. The band found a completely original vocal style in singer David "Cheeto" Smith than in any other candidate. The four members grew tighter and wrote several songs that would never be possible before. Yet, although the music was coming almost nonstop, the band felt as if there was still something missing; thus Ian van den Broek was added to the band in early 2008 to provide the low end tones found in EOT's songs. At the beginning EOT made a name for themselves almost overnight. Playing many shows at local venues in the Maryville-Knoxville area, EOT provided a new and completely different sound for local music and fans to enjoy.
The summer of 2008 bought much opportunity for band growth. With the opportunity to record a 3 track EP, East Old Topside was able to spread their music to more fans across a farther spectrum. Apart from recording, EOT played several shows in East Tennessee, including venues such as Coffee'z, Embassy, University of Tennessee's Battle of the Bands, Big Mama's Battle of the Bands, as well as many small local spots. Throughout the summer the band grew tighter and closer than ever before, gaining a sense of understanding for each other's style of play, not to mention longlasting friendships. By the end of the summer, life picked back up outside the band, making practices and booking difficult. With four of the members going off to college, one of these going to college away from Knoxville, and one remaining in highschool for his last year, the dream of creating music together as EOT dwindled. EOT has discussed coming back and playing as many shows as possible this summer. Until proven otherwise EOT seems as if it will be only a seasonal project. We will still be writing new and playing new music in the future. Thanks for sticking with us, for without our fans we are nothing; we love you all!
East Old Topside made a comeback in December 2008 with a new lineup consisting of originals Joel Hollingsworth and Michael Livingston still on guitars, as well as now taking up vocals, and Brandon McBath on drums. EOT played their first show back out at Embassy in April 2009 and continue to look for shows to play. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN PLAYING OR BOOKING EAST OLD TOPSIDE JUST MESSAGE THE MYSPACE OR CONTACT ANY BAND MEMBER. We are working on getting some rough recordings down to demo our new sound, so stay tuned!
East Old Topside has comepletely changed their view on the direction the band wants to the music to go. First forming just as a cool and fun way to pass time, EOT has become a band who feels and exists to spread the love and grace of God through their music and talents. Whether it be through lyrics, music, or just talking with people, the boys of East Old Topside desire nothing more than to be a leading example in a lost world and wish to serve and love on all those they come across. We feel that this is our calling, to play music in God's name and to share the love of Jesus Christ everywhere we go. All three current members participate in their local church youth praise bands and EOT is becoming a ministry that each hopes to continue to pursue in the days ahead. We are always happy to talk with anyone (whether you like us or not) and will always be here to pray for and love on you. We will never be too big to talk to anyone so give us a shout and we'll be sure to reply!
If you don't feel like the way we live our lives is for you, that's fine; we just want all of our fans to know that we love God and believe he has given us our talents, so we want to try to use them to glorify Him. Don't let our differences separate us; we love meeting fans and appreciate compliments on our music (who wouldn't?). We just hope you enjoy the tunes we put out and look forward to meeting new listeners. Thanks for the support and God bless!
thanks man! and yes we would love to play some shows with you guys! let us know if there is a spot we can fill sometime, and we'll do the same for you guys!
Hmm its not really a party, its more of a get together with my close friends. I just don't want random people I don't know showing up out of no where, ya konw?
But you guys can invite whoever you want, it doesn't matter to me.
And like I said, you're welcome to stay afterwards and show me how to play The Law of Club And Fang. XD
