My name's Bob Barnum. I run boxing, kickboxing and martial arts classes in my gym , located in Turtle Creek, PA (near Monroeville), about 15 - 20 minutes east of downtown Pittsburgh. Our gym was founded in 1979, has been in it's current location since 1985, I joined in 1991, had my first fight in 1996 and I took over in 2002. I moved out of state for a little bit and the gym was run by one of my students during that time.
In addition to my sports training, I have earned a 3rd Degree Black Belt in American Freestyle Martial Arts and Instructor rank in several styles including police defensive tactics. While many people have recently jumped on the bandwagon, opening gyms because it's the cool thing to do, we have a proven history that reaches back nearly 30 years.

At Rex Kwan Do, we use the buddy system. No more flying solo. You need somebody watching your back at all times. Second off, you're gonna learn to discipline your image. You think I got where I am today because I dressed like Peter Pan over here?
Because I know you are probably losing sleep over this...the overwhelming explanation for the name "haymaker" is due the motion of the arm, which mimics the action of manually cutting hay by swinging a scythe. Makes sense, I guess, though I haven't used a scythe lately (or ever) to know if that is true. Another explanation I found is that some fighter back in the 1920s with the last name Hamaker knocked someone out with that punch and the announcer mispronounced his name, thus it became known as as the haymaker punch, rather than the HAMaker punch, which was how his name was pronounced. A little more inventive a reason, I gotta say.
Hello Bob! You probably dont remember me but I took martial arts here about 100 hears ago and was interested in getting back in to it. I believe I read on the site you could take a free class and was wondering how to go about such?
I don't know if I'll be back to the gym again... On top of your page there is a banner ad offering to teach the most devistating of all the martial arts... Muay thai. I think I'm going to buy that book and just teach myself. So long, sucker.
