Originally a solo project of Phil McSorley going by the name of Grimness Enshroud (McSorley did release a demo under this moniker, but it was to be the sole release as such) Colorado black metal group Cobalt was formed (and named) when drummer Erik Wunder came on board.
Their first EP, Hammerfight, came to be in 2003, and was followed by the full-length War Metal in 2005. Their second album, Eater of Birds, featured an appearance by avant-rock legend Jarboe, and was released on Profound Lore in 2007. Eater of Birds was a critical hit, being named an album of the year by Terrorizer magazine. ~ Chris True
