Eat More Cake are a 5-piece electronica band based in Harrow, NW London, whose music combines elements of dance, hip-hop and down-tempo. Their debut single ‘Red Sky’, featuring Alexis Griffith, will be released on December 7th. It is taken from the album ‘Climb The Ladder, Live The Dream’ which is to follow in early 2010, both on independent label Urbantorque Recordings.
Eat More Cake was formed by Andrew Briggs and Matt Pearn, who began by writing instrumental dance music in their bedroom studio, adding either vocal samples or employing guest singers. As their writing styles matured, they found themselves with an abundance of quality songs, continuing to write together even whilst Andy was at University in San Diego and Matt was living in Wales. Now their style can be recognised by the poignant and often biting lyrical content, lush orchestrations and irresistible head-nodding beats. After writing and producing their own demo album and EP they signed to Urbantorque Recordings in 2007.
Their live act transfers their vibrant and diverse sound to the stage with additional members Kay Juviler-Bacon (vocals), Alex Lane (drums) and Owen Charles (turntables, ableton) joining Andy (vocals, guitar) and Matt (keyboards). Live highlights so far include Glade Festival, The Institute of Contemporary Arts, Camden Barfly, 93 Feet East and Hamswell Festival. They have also played frequently at the Trinity Bar, Harrow where they have an excellent local following.
Their debut album was recorded at Eastcote Studios, London and produced by Richard Kayvan. The album features strings performed by the Bulgarian Philharmonic Orchestra, arranged and conducted by Youki Yamamoto and engineered by Grammy award winner Matt Howe.
Eat More Cake have already appeared on Hed Kandi compilations ‘The Mix 2009’ in the UK and ‘Serve Chilled’ in the US. They have also had a white label version of the track ‘Better Than Everything’ played several times on BBC Radio 1. Having had remixes released on singles by Green Is For Go, Relation and One eskimO, they show no signs of slowing down.

"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A.
