ENLIGHTENED BY DARKNESS - [2005-2008]
With music based on intense riffing and focused song structures, whilst reviving the “shred” component of much of the 80’s thrash movement, Australian Thrash/Melodic Death/Power Metal band Enlightened by Darkness (EBD) create a fast, melodic and unique blend of TRUE METAL. This coupled with deep and deliberate lyrics and a vocal approach varying from tortured screams to soaring power metal vocal styles, has EBD aiming their sights towards forging a sound different to the norm, yet with an appeal that spans a multitude of genres.
Drawing from a diverse range of influences such as Nevermore, Dissection, Carcass, Slayer, Pantera, Judas Priest, At the Gates, and Iron Maiden; EBD are creating a brand of music that pays homage to their metal peers whilst breathing a new life into it and creating something new.
The years 2005 and 2006 saw EBD release their debut Demo and sell out the ENTIRE first pressing around the state of Queensland (Australia). 2007 proved to be a big year for Enlightened By Darkness with the release of their highly anticipated release “Buried Beneath” and scheduled appearances in many major cities and at some of the country’s leading festivals as well as embarking on several self-funded tours to promote their release.
Will the goals between members beginning to differ, EBD decided it was best to end on a high note and played their last show at Rockhampton's ROCKFEST festival in front of a crownd of over 2000. The member of EBD have gone on to form two new bands, both of which are writing material for their debut releases.
The door is not permanently closed for EBD, and the possibility of getting back together for a few fun gigs or permanently is a possibility.
REVIEWS - Buried Beneath
“This album is wall-to-wall twin guitar melodic thrash. It has a modern sound and delivery (particularly with regard to the varying vocal styles), searing and catchy riffs and bursts of lead guitar. Just the way it should be.”

“Enlightened By Darkness are one of those bands that aren't genre-conscious; they have their own sort of style and they do it well.”
THE FALLOUT MAGAZINE - (7.9/10)
“The band are at their best when they step away from the maiden-esque riffs and into more rhythmically and harmonically complex territory, and truly shine when the band's eerie, resonant, melodic vocals take centre stage. There is a lot of potential here.”
RAVE MAGAZINE - (3/5)
“In all this is a great first CD for a young band, the no Bullshit production is, in my view, a massive plus for EBD, great songs and a solid work ethic will see these guys at the top of the Aussie scene before too long, and with tracks being featured on some American compilations, it won't be too long before we see them making a dent internationally. Bloody well done!”
METALTEAMUK.NET
“The band's sound has matured, progressed and evolved from the first record into a much darker, rougher, harsher beast, but more unique and certainly a lot more passionate with their updated lineup. These dedicated heavy metal lovers are already knocking down the doors of those who matter in the metal scene and rightfully so. They will certainly go a long way.”
HOISTROCKYONLINE.COM - (4.5/5)
" Musically they combine different kinds of metal, so be prepared to hear elements from thrash death and even power metal, all of them accompanied by extreme and clean vocals. Imagine influences from Pantera, Nevermore, Slayer and Dark Tranquillity with the personal touch of Enlightened By Darkness.”
