Emack & Bolio's is a great little coffee/ice cream shop right in the heart of Roslindale Village. Every Wednesday night there is a music open mike, with a different featured performer each week. It is hosted by Carlyn Hutchins, a Boston area singer/songwriter. She may play a few songs to start the night, depending upon how busy it is. Or she may just kick back and relax while everyone else plays!
Most weeks, Steve Friedman from Melville Park Studio records all of the performers. You can buy your recordings for a very reasonable price, what a great an inexpensive way to put a rough demo together!
If you are interested in being a featured performer in 2008 or 2009, please send an email to openmike@carlynhutchins.com and send a link to your MySpace or Sonicbids EPK. The open mike may be put on hiatus between December 2008 and March 2009, but we won't know until the early fall. Stayed tuned!
Signups start at 6:30 pm and the board fills up fast, so get there early! The open mike starts around 7:00 and runs until about 9:30, with the featured performer playing a 30 minute set starting around 7:45 or 8:00 pm. All ages are welcome and there is no cover charge, but we do encourage donations for the featured performers. Thanks, and hope to see you out!
