From autumn 2003 to the summer of 2005, Echo-Bass tore through the local music scene in Glasgow like a tornado, leaving a trail of awe-struck fans and broken guitar strings in their wake. Their tight, dynamic sound and energetic live performances helped them build a loyal and dedicated fanbase, with gigs at venues across the city including The Cathouse, Renfrew Ferry, Nice n Sleazys, Ivory Blacks, and even Glasgow Green.
Formed by high school friends Pol Romano, Nicholas Ball (aka Chink), Chris Mallon and Chris Gallagher, the band played a few gigs as a four-piece before completing the lineup with the addition of Chris Clark (aka Geo) as a second guitarist and backing vocalist, opening up a whole new world of songwriting possibilities without which such Echo-Bass classics as "Slide Away" would not have been possible.
Unfortunately, the band were dealt a tragic blow in June 2005, when Mallon was diagnosed with cancer, forcing the band to take an extended break from writing and gigging while they dealt with the illness of their close friend. However with Mallon having responded incredibly well to the long series of operations and treatment, the band returned in October 2006, supporting Dead City Riots on their album launch night!
Since then they have had a string of very successful gigs, recorded a new five track demo and recently took part in The Scottish Sun's Win-a-Deal competition, whose judges said "they ticked a lot of the right boxes for being a hit band" and "they have really powerful material and their two singers are brilliant!".
Lenny Graham replaced Chris Gallagher in May 2009 and the band are now working on new material for upcoming gigs. Echo-Bass would like to thank Gallagher for his contribution over the last 6 years. The band were also recently featured on Manchester Rock Radio 106.1 with the track Let Me Breathe played in a high profile Friday night slot and then on A-List rotation for the rest of the week. Huge thanks to everyone who voted for us to make this possible!!
