Echo Echo Sparrow were a Washington, D.C., three-piece who fused punk and post-punk minimalism with sprawling no-wave soundscapes.
They disbanded in July 2007 due to their inability to cope with the pressures of their newly acquired celebrity status and the entertainment industry.
When asked about the bands break up, drummer Matt Pelkey was quoted as saying: "It's better to burn out than to fade away." He has since retired to a cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains to write a book about his experiences in the DC rock scene and the psychological hardships endured during his time in Echo Echo Sparrow.
The remaining members, David Riposo (guitar) and Joao Da Silva (guitar + vox) have remained in silence since the break up. Fans believe that David has relocated to India and joined the Zoroastrian cult of Ahura Mazda. As for the former vocalist, Joao, it is believed that he is working on a solo concept album based on “Jelly Belly”, a novel by Robert Kimmel Smith.
Concrete Alchemy is a tour of 15 visual artists visiting five major urban centers on the East Coast. It is the first tour that creatively combines gallery shows, public panel discussions and numerous murals to present the artists’ unique approach to public arts.
Friday, May 23rd, 2008 – National Harbor, MD The tour will officially end with a gallery exhibit opening at Art Whino on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 6 pm to midnight. The audience will have chance to view artists’ recently finished canvases and a slideshow of photographs from the previous days of the tour.
