Rife with grinding, grunge-inspired guitar riffs and memorable choruses, Echo Son's music has evolved from an instrumental experiment into a formidable rock ensemble with a breathtaking live show.
The groundwork for Echo Son was laid in 2006 when Chicago scene veterans Alex Clark (guitar) and Chris King (drums) began writing music with bassist and Indiana transplant Ian Palmer. The arrival of former Emisis singer Brynn Robinson completed the lineup in late 2007.
Robinson's scorching, Ian Astbury-meets-Chris Cornell wail were the perfect foil for the churning, twisting musical passages the trio had been creating. The end result incorporated elements of progressive rock, '90s alternative, and metal.
Recently, Echo Son teamed up with eight other bands to form Chicago Noise Machine, a consortium of local groups pooling resources to promote concerts and support one another. Months after producing a sold-out concert at the Cubby Bear, Chicago Noise Machine organized the first-ever I AM (Independent Arts and Music) Fest, which featured 25 local bands (including Echo Son) on two stages, as well as a number of art and photography exhibits, at Chicago's historic Congress Theater.
In 2009 Echo Son released "Novella," a 4-song EP recorded at Nashville's Blackbird Studios with producer Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Bryan Adams, Warren Zevon). The album is available at the band's shows and at online services such as iTunes, Amazon MP3 and Rhapsody.
