Underground DanceWorks is an EclectiFunk based dance company founded in 1999 in Philadelphia, PA.

UNDERGROUND DANCEWORKS' MISSION:
Underground DanceWorks (UDW) was established to bridge the social, cultural, racial, sexual and gender gaps of our American society. Artistic Dirctor Charles Tyson, being such a bridge himself, believes, "In order to truly move forward as one people we must learn to acknowledge, respect and embrace all of our differences that make our society such a unique one. Make intelligent commentary without claiming to know the answer. Being quiet doesn't get the point home. Just because the truth isn't pretty doesn't make it any less the truth." Through performances and residencies, UDW brings this message to its new and diverse audiences.
Our Debut was an evening length performance entitled "Cigarettes and Lipstick" (1999) co-produced with fellow choreographer Jeff Prall.

EclectiFunk is an original dance style/technique based on the vocabulary and choreography of Charles Tyson, Jr.
It encompasses modern, jazz, ballet, African dance, hip hop, vogue, and several other theatrical styles of performance.

· Artistic Quality
· Extraordinary Technical Skill and Ability
IF Hired :
SFHHDF PROVIDES-
· Travel expenses and/or performance fees
· A packed house at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in which to perform
· Invitations to attend any and all VIP events hosted by the SFHHDF
· Opportunities to connect with dancers from all over the globe
· Media coverage
COMPANIES MUST PROVIDE-
· Companies MUST provide a HIGH RES URL, BIO and PHOTO
· Companies must submit/audition THE SAME PIECE that they intend to perform
· Pieces must be between 6-9 MINUTES long

About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there is a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There is also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
