ESQ’s diverse approach to jazz standards, coupled with their own compositions and the performance of works by contemporary composers, has caught the attention of many audiences since their formation in 2001.
The quartet plays in a variety of settings, from classical recitals in concert halls to modern jazz in less formal venues. Performances across Europe include the 14th World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia, Manchester Jazz Festival, Jersey Jazz Festival, Bridgewater Hall Gala Concert and featured artists at several RNCM Saxophone Congresses.
Uniquely, the group play many of their own compositions and arrangements that feature influences from their eclectic musical background. Some of these can be heard on their acclaimed debut album released in 2002.
Recently, ESQ has begun collaborating with percussionist Dominic Sales on an exciting new musical project for sax quartet and drums. This will culminate in an album and UK tour in late 2007.
