economix article. Economix was one of the most underrated hardcore bands of the Hardcore & Rave scene that took place in England in the early 90’s. by now almost legendary in the underground scene Economix EP released in November 1992 as a white label. Economix are two dj’s and producers from Manchester, sale.Danny and Ant B and they started their raving days back in 1991 just as the burgeoning rave scene was developing itself and growing.The record was produced by the band themselves releasing it without any information in the label but the track names and a somewhat concise “Economix EP” in the paper sleeve. This lack of information (as it used to happen with other whites) helped the record to be almost unknown in the mainstream, this fact, alongside its very limited distribution caused that a hoax about its authorship was spread in England for years as some people did believe that the tunes were written by DJ Desire, however, this fact has been strongly denied by Economix themselves. Needless to say, the record, mainly due to the massive track “Panic” (known as “Feel The Panic” over here) reached a incredibly huge popularity in Tenerife, becoming one of the most sought after tunes ever for years in the local Hardcore scene. No article about this EP can be complete without mentioning DJ Jonay, probably the best and most acclaimed Spanish Hardcore and Drum & Bass dj who played the tune event after event for years, making it crowd pleaser. Respect! With the renaissance of the Hardcore sound (now labelled as Old Skool ) in England with new artists, labels and old artists back in the business again, Economix have decided to perform live again after 11 years, now alternating their dj’s sets with performances of their old tracks including released and unreleased material which still sounds fresh and efective. In these new dj sets we can see how they still keep their Hardcore roots strong, that is, amazing piano melodies (wether they are for Hardcore or House tunes), fast rhythms, smooth scratching and nicely selected female and old hip hop samples.
