Willie"Bigeyes"Smith, Hubert Sumlin, etc... When you look back at your life, in large part it about places you,ve gone and who you've been there with. These are what make up the moments in time we talk about later, and with that being said... The 2005 Chicago Blues Blues Festival Petrillo Band Shell & the 2007 Poconos Blues Festival with Jody Williams. The 2007 San Francisco Blues Festival with Nick & the Fliptops. Performances with Hubert Sumlin at The St. Louis Blues Fest - The Pittsburgh Blues Fest - The King Bisquit Blues Fest, Helena, AR - The State Theatre (Kalamazoo, MI) - Columbia & Charloette, SC - Clarksdale, MS - Bull Durham Blues Fest - Buddy Guys Legends - Detroit Institute of Art, Kansas City, MO, New Brunswick, NJ and more ... In 2005 at the Chicago Blues Festival with Dusty Brown & The 2001 Lucerne, Switzerland Blues Festival with Billy Flynn, Bob Stroger & Little Smokey Smothers. Most recently worked tens of thousands of miles touring the U.S, Canada & Europe with Nick Moss & the Flip Tops .
A December 07' gig at The Rhythm Room (Phoenix, AZ) with piano great Henry Grey, Billy Flynn and Big Pete Pearson (The Blues King in Phoenix) along with The Rhythm Room Allstars. This visit to Phoenix also included a Bob Corritore produced recording session with Billy Flynn, Big Pete Pearson, Henry Grey, Johnny Dyer, Chris James, Patrick Rynn & Bob Corritore. Since 2004, both Kenny Smith & Eddie Kobek (alternately) provide the genuine blues beat behind Willie "Bigeyes" Smith, (long time drummer for the great Muddy Waters) as he tours promoting his most recent release as a harmonica playing frontman. "As a kid growing up, never in my wildest imagination could I see myself sitting behind the one of greatest blues drummers ever... hands down". Along with Willie is the great & vital blues bassman Bob Stroger (have bass will travel) and my old friend Little Frank Krakowski on guitar.
I first met the indestructible pianoman Pinetop Perkins back in the mid 80's working clubs around the mid-west. My time with Pinetop Perkins continued through the 90's and for a period included Dave Myers (Little Walters Aces) on bass along with The Rockin Johnny Band. Worth mentioning was a 1993 appearance in Cleveland, OH with Robert Jr. Lockwood, Dave Myers & Pinetop Perkins. The past several years of working with Willie "Bigeyes" Smith have made it possible to work with Pinetop again at many of the Blues Festivals and club dates along with Hubert Sumlin including The 2007 King Bisquit Festival in Helena, Arkansas.
From 1998 through 2007, if you happened into Billy Flynns' seemingly timeless gig at The Smoke Daddy in Chicago, Eddie Kobek was on the drums. On Division St, bluesmen along the lines of Eddie C. Campbell, Dusty Brown, Jody Williams, Lil Aurther Duncan, Illinois Slim, Martin Lang, Jesse Fortune, Dave Waldman, Johnny Dollar, Eddie Taylor Jr. and countless others would drop by to sit in.
Other notable gigs through the years include Rockin Johnny & the Lazy Boys(Martin Lang & Sho Komyia) Little Arther Duncan & the Backscratchers, Taildragger, Lurrie Bell, Rob Stone & the CNotes. More great gigs remembered: Jesse Fortune, John Brim, Yank Rachel, Barrelhouse Chuck, Barkin Bill, Mary Lane, Lazy Lester, Rusty Zinn, Bernard Reed (bass), The Chicago Blues Reunion, etc...
