“Edgardo & Candela” is a Salsa Band based in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1987. The instrumentation is piano, bass, three trombones, conga drums, bongo drums, timbales and vocalists.
Better known as simply “Candela,” their trade mark is their
high energy level performance, featuring great vocals,
a tight rhythm section and the powerful sound of the trombones.
The band features the crop of professional musicians in the Bay Area (see listing at left) which makes for an incredible musical experience every time they play.
"I am very proud of having shared the stage with this great musicians over two decades now -says band leader Edgardo Cambón- we know each other musically so well, they are indeed my Salsa family! Music for me- he continues- is all about making people want to dance, have a good time and maybe, even make us all think a little in the process."
That is exactly what Candela has been doing since their first performance 21 years ago!
Candela’s, repertoire combines dancing styles like Mambo, Cha-Cha-Chá, Merengue, Bolero, Timba, Cumbia and a taste of Candombe rhythms.
During the evening, Edgardo will personally assure that everyone is entertained while he mixes singing tunes by Oscar De León, Eddie Palmieri, Rubén Blades, Tito Puente, Guaco, Pete "Conde" Rodriguez, Celia Cruz and Ray Barretto among others, but the real treat here is Edgardo's original music, presenting him as a poetic lyricist. Candela has 3 recordings "Ilusiones" (1989) "Madre Rumba, Padre Son" (2000), and the latest release "Celebrando 20 Años (2008).”
Jessie Varela, program Director of KCSM radio and Latin Beat Magazine critic wrote: "When one goes to see Uruguayan born Edgardo Cambón and his Band "Candela" play, two words immediately come to mind: Conguero and Sonero (singer-improviser). Edgardo has mastered that great ability to lead his Salsa Band from the Conga drums...while singing lead vocals…! Now... that’s a show by itself!"
Thanks for your message Edgardo and congratulations on finishing your CD! Wow that sounds like a great show! Unfortunately, I am flying in that night to SFO at 7 pm but I will try to make it, depends on how the flight goes! I have been playing a lot of my own music lately - it feels great! Espero verte pronto!
Edgar, mil gracias por el add, un placer y un honor tenerlo en mi lista de amigos.!! Por aca en Caracas a la orden.! Y que Viva La Musica." Oliver "cj"
