In mid/late 2005, Mike along with his friend Phil decided to launch a podcast-based talk show titled “EDGE FM” in January 2006. They started to discuss how they would do the show, what they would talk about and what the overall format of the show would be like. They eventually settled upon a “free talk” format in which topics would vary and not be bound to a single format like traditional talk radio.

On Jan. 3 2006, CBS Radio launches their FREE FM format on 92.3 FM in NYC. Mike, being a radio geek, instantly listens and realizes that THIS is the format his show needs to be like… talking about anything. Shows such as “JV & Elvis” and “The Booker Show” start to influence the idea of what the EDGE FM podcast should be like.

In mid-January, Mike and Phil launch EDGE FM (no one remembers the actual date). It was actually a spur of the moment idea during a break in classes at school to experiment with a quick pre-show which ended up turning into the first show. Phil is out of breath during the first show after trying to run after a friend’s 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse… that friend ended up being a guest on the first show.

Throughout the rest of 2006 and most of 2007, Mike and Phil keep it going with (almost) weekly EDGE FM shows. A few times they took long breaks from doing shows, being busy with school and work and other things. Near the end of 2007 during yet another hiatus, Mike realizes it’s time for a change concerning EDGE FM.

After the failure of a related podcast radio station named Army Radio, a friend of Mike’s named Sal approaches Mike wondering if he could join the EDGE FM show and help to revive it. Sal’s podcast partner had left their show due to other commitments in life which needed taking care of… and Sal still wanted to do a show. So Mike approached Phil about stepping down from the EDGE FM show and taking a break from the show… Phil obliged, being busy with a new job and other events in his life as well. Phil is currently doing just fine and is still loosely aligned with the EDGE FM show to this day. EDGE FM rolls right along into 2008 and begins on an unstable platform, but little did Mike & Sal know that things were about to change.

In late March 2008, talks begun again with the former Army Radio management to revive the idea of having everyone’s shows under one banner. Sal and Mike had also started talks on beginning a 24 hour rock music stream. Mike took the idea to Erik (of Eye Poke FM) and proposed it. Erik saw merit in the idea but also added into the idea on his own by saying it should also include the other “Dog House” fan shows such as 3DotB (now Eye Poke FM), The EDGE (renamed from “EDGE FM” to lessen confusion) and Fantasy Vixen. Mike agreed, and EDGE FM then launched the music format on Saturday, March 29th at 4PM eastern. The first song played was The Rolling Stones’ “Brown Sugar”. The talk programming begun the following week with The EDGE on 4/2.

At 4:50pm eastern on Sun, Aug. 24th, EDGE FM silenced the music format. The main reasoning behind that was that if we wanted to get popular, we’d become more noticed… and people would catch on to the fact that our music stream was unlicensed and not paying royalties to the necessary companies. The final song you ask? ‘In The Year 2525', by Zager and Evans. After killing the music (which we were sad to do), we launched the 24/7 talk stream featuring all of the shows on EDGE FM thats still kicking to this day.
