He is the author of the forthcoming“Welcome to the Terrordome: The Pain, Politics, and Promise of Sports” for Haymarket Books. His "Muhammad Ali Handbook” for MQ Publications came out earlier this year.
His first book “What’s My Name, Fool?” Sports and Resistance in the United States” (Haymarket Books) has entered its second printing and is available in stores and at haymarketbooks.org and amazon.com.
He is a weekly television commentator [via satellite] for The Score, Canada’s number one 24-hour sports network.
He is also the Thursday morning sports voice on WBAI’s “Wake Up Call with Deepa Fernandes.”
Zirin is working on “A People’s History of Sports,” part of Howard Zinn’s People’s History series for the New Press.
He is working on a sports documentary with Barbara Kopple’s Cabin Creek films on sports and social movements in the United States.
Who I'd like to meet: Sports fans interested in politics; political people interested in sports; sports fans who think politics is as exciting as watching an apple turn brown; political people who are tired of being embarrassed to be sports fans. Also if Muhammad Ali floats your onion, we should probably connect.
Dave Zirin and Chuck D speak about Welcome to the Terrordome
Lots of NFL- Favre welcomed back to Green Bay, Steve Smith punching faces, And my Top 25 Fantasy Running Backs- Also, Big MLB Trades, and how I feel about the X Games
Also, we still need you to help The Athletic Supporters beat leukemia by sponsering us as we walk for better treatment and a cure. No amount is too small. Thank you, Eric http://www. active. com/donate/ltnChicag/2405_eric1028

Come join my cause: Cindy Sheehan for Congress! You will be able to recruit friends, raise money, and add a profile badge to show your support!
Cindy Sheehan already has half the signatures she needs to get on the ballot (all done in the last week!). Help her get the rest of the signatures so she can beat Nancy Pelosi for the San Francisco Congress seat!
So... protest at coors field when Lockhead martin was giving out small American flags to all Rockies' attendees. "Funk the War" was a theme, with the Flobots performing and breakdancing. I got to run sound for this event which was pretty cool to do. We ran a PA off a U-haul pickup truck battery that we parked right by the entrance to the stadium.
I wasn't totally all about the whole take back the flag theme but it wasn't really my event so I went along with it. It seemed to get pretty good, positive coverage. The police were also cool and didn't mess with us at all.
Who'da ever thunk professional sports would be a place where radical politics contest the status quo?
I feel very strongly about your work and the radio show has been a great resource part education for me and part hope that there are souls out there who still give a damn...
The BBC is showing a documentary about the Olympics and the salute in the next week hope you get to see it on BBC America.
If you want to make a difference, support independent media and feed a censored/starving artist, I have a business proposition for you: For fifty dollars, I can write a five to ten page long short story based on yourself, a friend, relative or loved one (it takes less than a week to complete). These make great presents for birthdays, holidays and anniversaries. I've been doing this for years ...
Best of luck, Saab Lofton, wherever you may be. I never got to publicly thank him for writing that story for my wife and me when we were newlyweds.
... my printer Jarvis Marlow said that, and believe it or not, Jarvis loved his short story so much he named his first born after one of its characters!
So we're giving rocky mountain socialism a shot. We'll see how it goes. This place is awesome and I feel really good here. See you around and all the best! -C

I think that your column is great and I always really look forward to it. I wish it ran in a newspaper here in Detroit, cause Lord knows we need some perspective on sports here. Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings and 15 % unemployment. Keep up the good work in the New Year.
I am always surprised to hear you on WBAI... too early in the morning for me to be too sharp. like when they start describing you and your books I'm like... "wait a minute... I know that guy!" duh. it happens a lot.. hahaha... hope yall are doing well, I will probably see yall sometime around the holidays, I will be in town with my husband, Robert. are you friends with him? you should be...
Great update article on Sean Taylor and the sorry saps rushing to judgement. Keep up the good work - I always look forward to the weekly article. Any news on "A People's History of Sports" with Zinn?!
I am a longtime fan of your work, including your support for Mumia, Kenneth Foster, Jr. and more.
Thanks for adding us. Your support is much appreciated.
What do you think of these newly discovered crime scene photos (viewed at Abu-Jamal-News.com)?
I have been personally contacting every media outlet I could find and still the mainstream media has completely ignored the story. Many independent media outlets have covered it, but the only independent outlet that has actually published one of the photos is the national Black newspaper, The SF Bay View (click here).
This is just the latest episode in a long history of corporate media bias (and arguably racism) towards Mumia and other political prisoners.
Just finished reading "What's My Name, Fool" and thoroughly enjoyed it!! Revealed alot of info about 'the world of sports' especially the alleged 'world wide leader' that I didn't really know about. Fav'rit chapter by far was on the ownership game that's played. Would love to know your take on ESPN's answer to 'Real Sports' ala "E:60". Keep up the great work!! Look forward to hearing you on Nathan Ive's show again!!
