Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, Edison Music were something of an anomaly: simultaneously concise, focused and clinical but still so passionate and real.
It was a rare thing. But unbelievably good.
They were a band who got it right, and got it right while rocking as hard as anyone.
Rising from the ashes of Hone, whose math rock leanings made it renowned for its willingness to push the musical envelope, Edison Music was much more immediate than its predecessor. But by no means less creative. They took explosive guitar hooks and melded them with melancholy pop melodies. Edison Music's songs are inspiring, powerful and lingering, creating the soundtrack for a life well-lived.
And it all came together perfectly on stage. Edison Music blew them away across Australia during their time together, sharing the stage with the likes of The Get Up Kids, Blueline Medic, Bodyjar, Pilot to Gunner, Saves The Day, After the Fall, Pollyanna, Antiskeptic, Jebediah, Thinktank, Mere Theory, I Killed The Prom Queen, The Hot Lies, Motor Ace, Kisschasy, Gyroscope, Seraphs Coal...
The band released a stunning debut Blueprint Yesterday in 2002. This five track EP turned heads everywhere. A year of knock-out performances and touring followed.
Last Year's Journal was the follow up. Edison Music's debut album is a testament to the hard work and maturity of the band. It received Australia-wide release in October 2003 on PV Records through MGM, followed by radio support and a string of tours.
Just as they were hitting their peak, Edison Music decided to call it a day in mid 2004, due to Joshua moving to Canada. Who knows what the future holds...
