In the late 80’s a new virus was discovered in Holland. The virus was very contagious and almost impossible to eliminate. It made the infected kids wear bandanas and blow their whistles while dancing strangely with closed eyes to a particular sound. The name of this virus: House-music.
Although his parents tried everything to protect their precious son. Edwin Oosterwal was one of the first to become infected in his hometown. As a way of dealing with the virus Edwin Oosterwal decided to become a DJ so he could play those house records himself. At one of his gigs he met Joris Voorn and this lead to a residency at Atak in Enschede for both DJ’s.
As the House music virus was infecting all the kids in Holland, Edwin Oosterwal moved to Australia trying to get rid of the virus. He didn’t know then that escape was futile, as the House-music virus had turned into a pandemic.
But Edwin Oosterwal was not willing to surrender to the House-virus yet. He moved to New York City thinking that the virus would be unable to spread there, as it was illegal to dance in The Big Apple. But after a few years he had to admit that it was impossible to escape the virus so he returned home.
Back in Holland Edwin Oosterwal met up again with Joris Voorn and they created a platform where all the infected could meet: Rejected. Making music together under the Rejected moniker was next on their list and in 2006 the first Rejected bomb was a fact. Because of the big success of this debut they decided to also start a record label. The Rejected label has since then released one underground hit after the other. Nowadays the name Rejected is very well respected all over the world and an indispensable part of the dance scene. Not only Rejected, also the label Green is a successful result of the collaboration between Edwin Oosterwal and Joris Voorn.
Gaining worldwide respect Edwin Oosterwal has played all over the world and at major events in Holland like Awakenings, Mystery Land and Extrema. Knowing that the House music virus is nowhere near to be eradicated, Edwin Oosterwal is a name to keep an eye on in the future!
